|
Two club records fell as the National
Young Athletes team racked up a big points tally against bottom clubs
Bedford & Bexley in the final fixture at St Albans yesterday. Mercy
Gutteridge improved her U15G pole vault record yet again, clearing a new
best 2.30m for victory. And the U17W 4x300m quartet of Becky Stanley,
Jess Seekings, Nicola Peachey and Debbie Knight carved another two
seconds off their previous mark to dip under three minutes for the first
time with 2:59.1s. There were many other personal bests in warm
conditions. The squad's points score lifts them to third in the table & wins a coveted place in the
Area Final at Hendon in two weeks where the opposition will be Windsor
SE& H, Tonbridge, Reading, Team Southampton, Enfield & Haringey,
Blackheath & Bromley and Croydon.

| Lauren wins national 5k bronze | |
|
Lauren Deadman won her first National
Senior track medal, winning 5000m bronze in a PB of 16:08:45 in the
England Athletics Senior Championships at Gateshead on Sunday. She
battled hard in the blustery conditions to improve her previous best by
four seconds to finish under seven seconds behind the eventual winner
Charlotte Purdue of Aldershot.

English Schools Champion Jimi Tele suffered defeat in Saturday's Home Countries Schools International at Glasgow. Although leaping an impressive 14.59m Jimi was defeated by School's runner up Adam Khan's 14.76m PB. |

| Eastern promise at Cambridge Champs | |
|
There were some promising performances and a clutch of medals as club youngsters contested the Eastern Counties Championships at Cambridge yesterday. There was double discus gold as Sophie Baggs took the U17W title with a season's best of 32.56m and Georgie Taylor added the U15G crown with 31.48m. Alex Law jumped further than before in wining U15 Triple Jump gold with an 11.34m Championship best and Long Jump silver with 5.88m. Karl Tucker returned with a hat trick of medals & two PBs, taking silver in the U15 80m Hurdles in a PB of 12.38s, another high jump silver with 1.55m and triple jump bronze in a PB of 10.23m. In the U20 Mens 400m Hurdles Adam McCarthy was beaten on the dip winning silver in a season's best of 57.31s. Rylie Trott was fourth in the U17W 80 hurdles with 12.85s. added 18/07/10 |

| Neill Collins fifth in Euro Champs | |
|
Neill Collins was fifth in the 800m in the INAS-FID European
Championships held in Croatia this weekend. After placing second in his
heat on Saturday in 2:05.72s Neill recorded a season's best of 2:05.43s
in Sunday's final. Neill also competed in the 1500m on Friday, finishing
eighth in another season's best of 4:19.91s. added

| Eastern Young Athletes lead restored | |
|
A convincing victory over league leaders Chelmsford at
Braintree on Sunday restored the Eastern Young Athletes team’s narrow
lead at the top of the table with one match to go.
The U15 boys, U13 girls and U17 women all won their sections and the
other three teams were all runners up.
Victory in the final round on 15 August at Colchester will ensure that
the HMAC side retain the league title as the club just head
the table on event points, ahead of Stevenage and Chelmsford who share
the same match points total. Seventh placed Bedford will be the main
opposition. added

| Southern men edged out in home match | |
|
A
strong Belgrave squad just had the upper hand as the Southern Men's team
fell three points short of victory at their home Division 3N fixture at
Mayesbrook Park on Saturday. Four track A STRING victories came by
virtue of Ian Price (800m, Joe Waked (1500m), Steve Rand (5k) and Dan
Miller ('chase) while Anthony Soar added B string 800m top points.
Nathan Steele returned to club action with a triple jump win and Arron
Bonning produced wins in both B 10 hurdles and high jump as part of his
eight event workload. Simon Richards, Jordan Brown, Joe Waked and Scott
Spencer combined to round off events with a win in the 4x400m but
Belgrave hung on for a three point winning margin. added

| Record goes as Jimi strikes Schools' gold | |
|
Jimi Tele further improved his cub U17 triple jump
record with a massive 14.86m leap as he won Inter Boys' gold at the
English Schools' Championships at Birmingham on Saturday.
He now competes for England in the Schools International at Glasgow on Saturday. Georgie
Taylor was edged out of a medal in the junior girls' discus finishing
fourth with 31.45m. Flic Clarke improved her 400m hurdles PB to 63.66s
in finishing sixth in the senior girls' event and there were also sixth
places for Kike Oniwinde (senior Javelin 43.86m) and Emmanuel Quarshie
(senior shot - 14.01m). Holly Thomas failed to finish in the 80m hurdles
final after a recurrence of her hamstring injury. Isaac Ogunlade moved
closer to the club U20 110m hurdles record with his 14.76s heat
clocking, while Josh Olawore went out in the inter boys' 100m hurdles semi
finals. Brad Burr was 11th in the senior javelin. added

| Athletes shine in London Youth Games | |
|
Nine club members represented the Havering Borough U15 team on Sunday at
the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games at Crystal Palace. Lydia
Hallam's exciting 800m victory saw her smash her personal best with a
time of 2.18.9. A bronze medal went to Bethany Chambers in the 300m and
she took 9th in the Long Jump. Georgie Taylor, Rachel Forder and Tomi
Akingbade all gained valuable points. For the boys, Billy Bilton was 8th
in the Javelin then stepped up to run the 400m in an excellent 56.5 sec
that gained him a place in the final where he placed 6th. Alex Law
finished 4th in the Long Jump with 5.65m and, immediately afterwards,
won his heat of the 200m to make the final but withdrew due to heat
exhaustion. Another fourth place and fine PB went to Karl Tucker for his
1.60m High Jump and Ben Thompson gained good points in the Shot with
10.75m.

| Mat & Jason wins veterans' titles | |
|
Mat Bland defended his British Masters' M40 1500m title at Cardiff in style this weekend when he came home in 4:08.07s in the National Veterans' Championships. Mat was also fifth in the 800m in 2:05.37s. And new Veteran Jason Lendon earned his first national title when he was victorious in the M35 3000m steeplechase with his 10m 06.24s clocking. Another club athlete new to the vets ranks was Scott Spencer who came away with silver medals in both 200m (23.90s) & 400m (51.57s) in the M35 age group. Paul Berrett returned from injury to win bronze in the 3000m 'chase for M45s with his 11:16.78s effort and was also seventh in the 1500m. added 05/07/10 |

| Ladies third at Stevenage | |
|
A near full-strength ladies team bounced back from their
first round seventh position with a third place finish in their UK Women's
Division Two fixture at Stevenage on Sunday.
The middle distance
events provided the backbone of the squad's success. Lauren Deadman
was an emphatic B string 800m victor before winning the 1500m A race in
equally dominant fashion. Faye Fullerton was third in the 800m before
kickinghard for 3000m victory. Sara Luck had an
excellent B string double taking 300m B honours before returning with 1500B
maximum points. Claire Brennan's 400m Hurdles PB brought her B string win and took her into the club
all-time top 10. Kate Cowley showed her class
with long jump victory and was also second in the B javelin and scored in
the shot. The final fixture is at
Coventry on 1 August and another strong turn out is essential if the
Havering side are to keep their Division Two place.

| Men fifth - Richard earns World Junior selection | |
|
A battling fifth place
finish at Yeovil on Saturday lifted the men's British League squad to fourth
place in the table at the half-way stage.
Richard Morrissey again
improved his club U20 400m record in taking victory in the A string and his
48.04s PB clocking sealed his selection for the GB Juniors 4x400m relay team
at the World Junior Championships in Moncton Canada at the end of the month. Luke Stott provided the
second A string win with a confident 200m victory. Richard joined
Joseph Ramie, Isaac Ogunlade and Shaun Stewart in a fine 4x100m relay quartet who comfortably ran out winners.
The result lifts the club
to fourth in the table but the positions are tightly poised and with the
bottom two clubs Southampton and Swansea hosting the final two fixtures on
31st July and 21st August nothing can be taken for granted.

| Josh beats Octathlon record | |
|
Josh
Olawore broke the club U17 Octathlon record at the first time of asking,
competing for Essex in the Eastern Schools combined events competition
at Chelmsford.
He set six PBs on the way to a 4524 points tally which added 50 points
to Brad Burr's record set last year. LJ: 6.48m (PB), DT: 24.69m; JT:
35.49m (PB); 400: 53.4 (PB); 100H: 14.1s; HJ: 1.74m (PB); SP: 11.78
(PB); 1500m: 5:10.3 (PB).
Brad Burr made up for the loss of his U17 record with a fine decathlon
performance close to 5000 points in the senior boys competition
setting PBs of 1.74m (HJ), 16.7s (110mH), 5.62m (LJ) and 2.60m (PV) in
fifth.
Both will represent Essex in the National Finals at Stoke on 18/19
September.

| Lauren fourth in Euro Trials | |
|
Lauren Deadman was a
fine fourth in the European Trials and UK Championships at Birmingham
this weekend. Her 16m 27.78s clocking for 5000m in heat wave conditions
on Sunday saw follow medallists Freya Murray, Laura Kenney and Justina
Heslop across the line ahead of several athletes with faster times.
Alexa Joel was 12th in 16m 43.72s.Sara Luck improved her
season’s best to 10m 48.55s in finishing ninth in the 3000m steeplechase
while Faye Fullerton was tenth in the a pedestrian 1500m which developed
into a flat out last lap sprint after a funereal early pace.

| Juniors keep promotion hopes alive | |
|
The
National Junior League squad hopes of a Promotion play-off final place
were not dented as a depleted side held on to their top of the table
spot after a third place finish at sweltering Bedford on Sunday.
Flic
Clarke and Nicola Peachey provided a winning start on the track when
they won both A & B 400m hurdles races, with Nicola smashing her PB.
Katherine Knight excelled in the throws, throwing a season’s best for
runner up in the discus, and smashed her PB in the hammer for B string
second place. Jack Edgar-Hill provided the only A string victory for the
men winning the 110m hurdles in a new legal best and Lewis Williams’ B
string hammer win was the other maximum points.

| Magnificent seven are fourth | |
|
The combined efforts of the magnificent seven team
members who made the trip to Luton on Saturday could not stop another fourth
place finish in their Southern Women's League Division 1 fixture. The sprint
hurdles provided maximum returns with Claire Brennan winning the A and Kate
Cowley taking B honours. Former multi-eventer Kate scored well with second
places in the long jump (season’s best), high jump and pole vault, and third
in the shot, while Claire added 400m hurdles, 200m and javelin points. A
much improved turn out is needed for the next fixture which the club host at
Mayesbrook Park on 7th August.

| Nine earn English Schools selection | |
|
Eight club athletes – four throwers and four hurdlers – will compete for the Essex Schools Team in the English Schools Championships at Birmingham on 10/11 July. A ninth athlete, Jimi Tele, who attends Millfield School in Somerset, will represent that county after improving his club U17 Triple Jump record to 14.19m and again extending it to 14.43 last weekend.. Javelin throwers and previous medallists Brad Burr (senior boys) and Kike Oniwinde (senior girls) have been selected as have shot putter Emmanuel Quarshie (senior boys) and promising junior girls’ discus thrower Georgie Taylor. Hurdlers Holly Thomas, fifth last year but nursing an injury, and Josh Olawore, who won triple jump silver last year, go in the intermediate sprint hurdles, while Flic Clarke, fourth in the inter mediate girls’ 300m hurdles event last year steps up to the senior 400m hurdles event and Isaac Ogunlade contests the senior 110m hurdles. | NYAL team keep Final hopes alive | |
|
Havering Mayesbrook young athletes left it
late but overhauled hosts Herne Hill to place second at Battersea on
Sunday, keeping alive hopes of an end of season Regional final place.
The U17 Men led the way with eight
individual victories. Josh Olawore contributed two, smashing his triple
jump best, taking the long jump and just losing out in the 100m hurdles.
Andrew Kerr added another double with victories in hammer and pole
vault. The U17 Women had three wins and
six runners up spots and there was a good team display from the
U15 Boys who had three wins and no
fewer than 10 second placings. There were four victories and a club
record from the U15 Girls as Mercy
Gutteridge again improved her pole vault club best. Enfield &
Haringey and Blackheath & Bromley have bagged two of the four Final
places but it looks like a three-way battle between Herne Hill, Croydon
and the Havering Mayesbrook squad for the other two. The final match is
at St Albans on 18 July. |

| Richard bronze at U20 Champs & Trials | |
|
Richard Morrissey earned a fantastic bronze medal at this weekend's national U20 championships and World Junior Trials at blustery Bedford. After winning his heat and semi final on Saturday, the latter in 48.45s just shy of his club record, Richard was third in today's final in a time of 48.68s. Jack Edgar-Hill bounced back with a fine fourth place in the 110m hurdles in 14.82s after his disappointing seventh in last week's Southern Champs. In qualification he smashed his best to run 14.65s- better than the club u20 record but the wind was just over the allowable limit. Brad Burr threw 53.92m for seventh in the U20 javelin, with Georgie Bean 11th, and Kike Oniwinde threw 41.29m for eighth in the women's equivalent. Flic Clarke (65.63s), Isaac Ogunlade (56.97s) and Adam McCarthy (59.68s) all went out in the 400m hurdles heats. added 20/06/10 |

A gold, three silvers and a bronze were
the medal tally from this weekend's South of England Under 20 and Senior
Championships, held at Crystal Palace. Sara Luck successfully defended
her senior 2000m steeplechase crown with victory in a new club record of
6m 48.20s. Another club record to go came not unexpectedly in the U20
Men's 400m where Richard Morrissey erased Kevin Lidlow's 30 year old
mark. Isaac Ogunlade battled the strong head winds to win silver in the
U20 men 110m hurdles event. Emmanuel Quarshie was a fine third in
the U20 Men's shot and Kike Oniwinde returned to form with a season's
best of 44.00m to win U20 javelin silver.

Club
athletes won at least six gold medals and several other podium places at
yesterday's Essex Schools Champs at Chelmsford. Three hurdles golds
came by virtue of Holly Thomas (Inter Girls - 80mH), Josh Olawore (Inter
Boys 100m H) and Jake Nelson (Inter boys 400mH)Throws golds came from
Debbie Knight (Inter Girls javelin, Georgie Taylor (Junior girls discus
)and Rachel Forder (junior girls shot). Other podium places went to
Danny Wilson (IB discus bronze), Billy Bilton (JB javelin silver),
Sophie Baggs (IG discus bronze), Alex Law (JB long jump bronze) Lydia
Hallam (800 JG bronze) and
Bethany Chambers (JG 200m). These and other athletes await the outcome
of the Essex selectors' meeting today to pick the team for the English
Schools Championships in July.

| Gold and two bronze in Essex relays | |

Club squads came away from the Essex Relays Championships at Braintree last night with one gold and two bronze medals. The Men's Under 17 squad struck gold in the 4x400m relay. Dale Marks-Swain gave the squad a fantastic start with his 54.2s opener to hand over in front to Ryan O'Mahoney who ran a fine 55.6s on second to maintain the lead. Danny Wilson ran his fastest leg of 53.5s and regained the lead after being passed to hand over with a short lead. Massi Dendani's superb 51.6s anchor just kept the team in front and sealed gold in 3m 34.9s. The two Under 13 boys' squads both earned bronze. The sprint relay team of Sam Dell, Liam Norman, Sean Wilson and Alex Hewitt clocked 57.3s in the 4x100m event while Fraser Scott, Thomas Pitkin and Sean Wilson again clocked 8m 06.5s for third in the 3x800m competition. added 9/06/10 |

The Eastern Young
Athletes Squad top the table after two rounds after a crushing 200 point
victory at Luton on Sunday, winning all six age groups. Both U17 teams were dominant. The U17
men won eight A string events and nine B strings. Debbie Knight starred for the U17 women
again improving her javelin best to 33.95m for second on the club all
time list. Strength in depth saw both Under 15 squads win their
sections. The Under15 boys had one A and three B winners while the U15 girls
again had a field day as Georgie Taylor & Rachel Forder won five events.
The U13 boys remarkably came out on top despite no individual wins and
they had to wait until the final event the relay before claiming maximum
points.

A short-handed ladies
team battled well to avoid the wooden spoon in their first UK Women’s
League fixture at a damp Wakefield on Sunday.
International Faye
Fullerton made the trip despite an Achilles injury and provided the only
A string victory in the 800m backed up by 400m B string runners up but
the contributions of her ten teammates were every bit as valuable The
hurdles events provided good points. In the 400m hurdles Nicola Hill
was overhauled and had to settle for second while in the B race Flic
Clarke made a winning league debut with an easy victory. In the 100m
hurdles Chloe van Wulven held on for third place and B string partner
Claire Brennan came through to take first place points.

| BAL Men fifth in Hendon opener | |
|
The promoted Men’s
British League squad got their season off to a solid start with a fifth
place finish at Hendon on Saturday. Evergreen Mat Bland ran his
fastest time for many years to break the 25 year old club veterans 1500m
record, as his 4m 05.15s clocking shaded the long-standing best by just
0.05 to earn the 43 year old fifth place points. Richard Morrissey was
just outside an even older record, as his 48.78s winning 400m run left
him a mere 0.06 secs short of the 30 year old club U20 record. Morrissey
also ran in both relays clocking an impressive 47.1 secs anchor leg in
the 4x400m relay.
The team next head west for the round 2 match at Yeovil on 3rd

Sara Luck defended her Inter Counties Championships title with a fine 3000m steeplechase victory in Essex colours in near gale force wind conditions at the Inter Counties Championships at Bedford on Saturday, coming home ten seconds clear in 11:01.72s. In the men's equivalent Rob Warner secured the bronze medal, leading for the first five laps in the windy conditions, but was overtaken with two laps to go and came in a very good third for a podium place with 9m 56.50s. Alexa Joel completed the medal tally on Sunday placing third in the women's 1500m with 4m 31.97s. Completing the HMAC quartet was 17-year -old Felicity Clarke who marked her senior debut, placing fifth in her heat, with a fine PB of 63.93s in the 400m hurdles for third fastest ever on the club all-time lists. added 30/05/10 |

Faye Fullerton recorded an impressive
victory in England colours when her sprint finish saw her cross the line
first in the 3000m event at the Loughborough International on Sunday.
Her 9m 12.42s clocking saw her beat Emily Pigeon (9:12.74) and Sonia
Samuels (9:13.06) in a close finish as World 1500m silver medallist Lisa
Dobriskey finished off the pace in fourth. Alexa Joel ran 9:39.95s for
ninth in the same race. Luke Stott was also in Loughborough action,

The
National Junior League squad stay on track for a place in the Promotion
match after a fine win in heat wave conditions at Ware on Sunday.
The men claimed three
track wins. Richard Morrissey repeated his first round 400m victory
winning comfortably, Jack Edgar-Hill showed his worth with victory in
the sprint hurdles and Jamie Buckley-Stanton had a good win in his first
2000m 'chase race. On the field Brad Burr had two wins, taking the
javelin A and making it a double with B shot success. Nicola Hill
returned from injury to win her speciality 400m hurdles and Felicity
Clarke took B string points. Holly Thomas and Nicola Peachey made it a
long jump double.

victory keeps the team on top of the table two points clear of Herts

| Kate & Sarah return but ladies lag | |
|
The return of Kate Cowley and Sarah Deacon boosted the Senior Women's
team's hopes but could not prevent another fourth place finish in their
Southern Women's League fixture at scorching Milton Keynes on Saturday.
Former international multi-eventer Kate returned to action after
maternity leave and tackled four events and the relay, placing first
equal in the high jump and second in the long jump. Sarah returned after
three years injury absence to compete in all four throws, winning the B
javelin and coming second in the B shot. The hurdles produced maximum
points with Claire Brennan and Laura Bealey in the 400m hurdles and
Chloe van Wulven and Brennan in the sprint hurdles. The
fourth place finish leaves the squad needing good results in the
remaining three fixtures to hold onto their Division one place.

| Southern Men win well at Ipswich | |
|
A fine blend
of youth and experience coupled with great competitive spirit saw the
Southern Men's team win their second round Div 3 fixture in emphatic
style at Ipswich on Saturday. Isaac
Ogunlade set the track team off to a winning start in the 400m hurdles.
This was followed by winning the next event the 100m, having a rest then
winning the 400m flat then completing the day undefeated in both winning
relays. The team's backbone of Darron Keevil
and Arron Bonning competed in ten events resulting in an impressive 33
points of the team's 122 point tally.

| More county medals | |
|
There were three more county medals for club
athletes at Woodford this weekend as Days 4 & 5 of the
Essex championships were held in conjunction with the
County multi-events competition. On Saturday Rob Warner won the county
3000m steeplechase title for the fifth consecutive year. In a fast race Rob beat Gavin Chatterton of Leeds
in a time of 9.42.19, his best of the season. On Sunday Ingrid
Deane smashed her previous best to clock 10:46s to win gold in the U20
ladies 3000m event while Jamie Buckley-Stanton also set new personal
marks of 9m 20 secs to take bronze in the U20 Mens' equivalent. added

| Young athletes step towards final | |
|
The National Young Athletes League team took a
step towards a place in the Southern Regional Final with victory at
Sutcliffe Park, Eltham on Sunday. A strong all-round performance saw
off first round winners Woodford and a strong Norwich squad to come home
in front by 60 points.
The Under 17
Men led the way providing winners in eight of the ten individual track
events and taking the 4x400m relay honours to round off the day in style. The Under 17
Women scored notched up five individual victories and set a new 4x300m
relay record as Nicola Peachey, Becky Stanley, Debbie Knight and Holly
Thomas sliced three seconds off the previous club best to come home in
front.

| Faye win's England 10k title | |
|
Faye Fullerton
smashed her 10k road run personal best to take the England Athletics
title at Bristol on Sunday. Her 33:03 clocking was over a minute faster
than her previous best and brought her home second ten seconds behind
Kenyan elite runner Edith Chelimo, who came home in a course record of
32:53. Faye’s second place won her the England Athletics title & £500
prize as first British runner across the line, with Bristol & West’s
Claire Hallissey third home taking England silver ten seconds behind
Faye in 33:13, and Charnwood’s Gemma Steele taking England bronze.

| Medals pile up at Essex Day 3 | |
|
Mat Bland won the
veterans 1500m title for the fourth year running as the main Essex
Championships continued at chilly Chelmsford today. There was a quartet
of 400m hurdles golds Claire Brennan & Felicity Clarke took the senior &
U20 women's honours and Isaac Ogunlade & Jon Seekings won the U17 & U20
crowns. Bethan Siddons won senior high jump gold. Silver service was
provided by Holly Thomas (U17 LJ), Annie Adewole (U17 SP) and Kike Oniwinde (U20 JT) plus
Karen Baldwin (senior PV). Ashley Purnell (U17 LJ) and Joseph
Ramie (SM LJ) also added runners up meals.

Club athletes defied
cold, windy and wet conditions to post some fine results at today's
Essex Championships at Chelmsford. Holly Thomas (U17W) and Josh
Olawore (U17M) both won sprint hurdles golds. Alexa Joel made a fine
return from injury to win the senior women's 1500m and Mark Bishop added
the veterans 100m title. On the field Brad
Burr won the javelin and Georgie Taylor added shot gold to last week's

The 12 athletes of
Havering Mayesbrook performed magnificently and were narrowly beaten
into third place in the first Southern Men's League match of the season
at Watford on Saturday. Despite this there is plenty to look forward to
as many PBs were set. Kieran Nelson had a hat-trick of wins in both
hurdles & triple jump. B string wins came from Ammad Massood (200) and
Ian Price (400). Less than a week after running the London Marathon
Arron Bonning contested nine events with two victories. Brad Burr was a
class apart in the javelin and the 4x100m squad were victorious.

| Eight medals in Essex Champs day 1 | |

The throwers led the
way as club athletes won at least eight medals at Day one of the Essex
Champs at blustery Thurrock today. Georgie Taylor again threw beyond 30m
to win gold in the U15 Girls discus, with Rachel Forder winning silver.
Rachel added an U15 javelin silver and there was another javelin silver
for Debbie Knight in the U17 event with Patsy McWeeney taking the bronze. Danny Wilson improved his
discus PB to win bronze in the U17 discus. Lydia Hallam was the only
track medallist winning bronze in the U15 Girls' 1500m.

The National Young
Athletes League marked their return to the Southern
Premier Division with a runners up spot in dismal wet conditions at Lee
Valley on Sunday. The Under
17 Women scored strongly with four wins and five second places. Nicola
Peachey won the sprint hurdles, with Rylie Trott second, and Nicola was
second in both 300m hurdles and long jump. Another one-two came from
Deborah Knight whose javelin PB brought her victory and Patsy McWeeney

| Young athletes shine in Mini Marathon | |

Despite several fine
individual performances, Havering’s young athletes just failed to retain
the overall team title in Sunday’s Virgin Mini London Marathon finishing
third. Best results from club members werefourth places from Lydia
Hallam (13/14 Girls) and Jamie Buckley Stanton (15-17 Men) and Rebecca
Stanley (Barking & Dagenham) in fifth (13/14 girls). Francesca Smith was
a fine eighth in the 12-12 Girls race. In the marathon itself Steve Rand
led home the club contingent in a shade outside his PB set last clocking
2:55.17 with Ian Anthony in 3:00.37. Jane Hallam’s marathon debut
produced a commendable 3:57.32 clocking

| Big win for EYAL team at Bury | |

The Eastern Young Athletes squad started their
defence of the league title with a convincing 100 point victory at Bury
St Edmunds on Sunday. The U17 Men overwhelmed the opposition with nine A
string and three B string wins, plus relay success. Andrew Kerr
successfully returned to club action after a long lay-off winning
personal bests in hammer and pole vault. Danny Wilson stepped up to the
U17 ranks with an excellent 40m+ discus through. The U15 boys were also
well clear with eight victories. Karl Tucker had a win double in the
high jump and B hurdles and Alex Law doubled up for victory in the long
jump and discus. Another win double came from Alex Habbershaw with wins
in the B long jump and 400m, where his A string partner Nathan Jackson
made a winning debut at the event. Other highlights included Mercy
Gutteridge's u15 girls pole vault record to 2.00m

| Juniors off to winning start at Braintree | |

A powerful performance brought an expected victory
in the opening National Junior League fixture at Braintree on Sunday.
There were ten victories for the men with two wins bagged by Richard Morrissey who won the male
athlete of the match award for his impressive 400m
success in 49.5s while his winning 200m PB was sixth fastest ever by a
club u20. There was a hurdles clean sweep thanks to Isaac Ogunlade, Jack
Edgar-Hill & Adam McCarthy, and a strong throws performance from
Emmanuel Quarshie, Laurence Goodacre and Lewis Williams. For the ladies
there were fine victories for Holly Thomas (200m PB), debutant Felicity
Clarke (400m hurdles PB) and the pair were joined by Lydia St Ange and
Lucy Arnold in the winning sprint relay team. added 26/04/10

A hastily assembled Southern
Women's League team did stand-in Team Manager
Irene Brennan proud with their efforts at Ewell
today but the short-handed squad had to settle
for fourth. Chloe van Wulven & Claire Brennan
provided a sprint hurdles double success, and
also paired up in the 400m hurdles, 200m and high
jump. Ingrid Deane added 3000m B victory and
Kike Oniwinde was victorious in the javelin.
There was a welcome return to club colours from
Megan Foley after more than three years away
from the track who tackled both 1500m & 3000m
and 400m relay, and Hannah Connor (five events &
sprint relay), Nina Brennan (four events & both
relays) and Helen Biscoe (800m, 1500m & 400m
relay) did their best to cover the gaps in the
depleted team.
