Season ends in style for young athletes   

Havering Mayesbrook AC’s young athletes completed their track season in fine style at Basildon on Saturday taking a clutch of medals home from the Essex County Relay Championships. Pride of place went to the girls under- 13 and under-15 3 x 800m squads who both took the gold medals with runaway victories. Report (added 26/9/00)

Silver Lining for Nina Brennan   

A win in the 800m, the last of the seven disciplines in the Heptathlon, helped Nina Brennan claim the silver medal in the Essex County Under 17 Heptathlon event at the weekend (23rd/24th September). Competing in the joint championships for Essex, Herts, Middlesex and Berkshire held at Watford, four personal bests took Nina to fifth overall and second in the Essex section with 3108 points, an improvement of almost 400 points on her previous best. After a successful season in her first year in the age group, the 15-year-old Hall Mead GCSE student now takes a well-earned short break before knuckling down to winter training. Results: 80mH: 13.40 secs (630 pts); High Jump: 1.28m (389 pts - PB); Shot: 7.58m (372 points); 200m 29.33 secs; Long Jump 4.29m (376 pts- PB); Javelin: 19.42m (278 pts - PB); and 800m: 2m 43.54 secs (533 pts - PB) (added 24/9/00)

Junior Ladies Clinch Promotion  

Strong performances in the field events ensured that Havering Mayesbrook’s Under 20 Ladies clinched promotion to the Southern Premier Division of the National Junior Athletics League at Abingdon on Sunday 10th Sept, coming home ahead of Aldershot, who claimed the second promotion place, Hounslow and Bromley. Sarah Deacon won the Field Athlete of the Match award, while Kate Brewington claimed the Grand Prix prize for the League's best performer.   Report & results (added 11/9/00)

Eastern Young Success - but only after several recounts!  

After an exciting afternoon of athletics, and following three recounts of the results, Havering Mayesbrook AC’s combined under-17 girls’ and boys’ team won the Eastern Young Athletes Trophy Final for the fourth time in five years at the Mayesbrook Arena on Sunday. Report (added 12/9/00)

Five PBs, Three Club Records for Katie B in Stunning England debut  

Kate Brewington set five PBs and smashed club junior 100m hurdles, and new senior and junior javelin records on her way to a new club senior and junior heptathlon record in her international debut in the Home Countries Combined Events International in Waterford, Ireland on 2nd & 3rd September. With the wind just inside the allowable limit, Kate opened with a new hurdles best of 14.55 secs, followed by 1.60m high jump, a new shot PB of 9.07m and completed Day One with a new 200m PB of 26.43 secs. The second day opened with a solid 5.42m long jump,  followed by two more PBs, with a new club javelin record of 34.63m and finished with a new 800m PB of 2m 35.34 secs. Kate's points total of 4736 was an improvement of over 200 points on her own PB and club record and earned her second place in the U20 event, won by Scotland's Laura Redmond. (added 4/9/00)

Southern Women confirm title and promotion  

With promotion to Southern League Division 1 a formality, Havering Mayesbrook's ladies' win at Milton Keynes on Saturday maintained their unbeaten record this season and confirmed that they had lifted the divisional title. Results (added 3/9/00).
