We
are pleased to tell you that the Club has been awarded £50,000 from Sport
England’s Community Athletics Refurbishment programme (CARP).
Together with funds already
allocated by Cleanaway Havering Riverside Trust, the London Marathon Charitable
Trust and the London Borough of Havering, the Club now has ALL the money (some
£258,000) needed to pay for laying a new track and refurbishing the field
facilities at Hornchurch Stadium.
The
hope is that work will commence in May when the football season has finished.
The local authority are busy appointing a project manager who will be
responsible for issuing tenders to appropriate contractors in the near future.
There
are still some hurdles to overcome including outstanding planning applications
by Hornchurch FC. We shall keep you all in touch with developments as we have
throughout the hunt for the funds to be able to bring competitive athletics back
to the Stadium.
In
the short-term, we shall also be planning for the 12-14 weeks period during
which we will be unable to use the Stadium. Inevitably, there will be some
disruption to training programmes but everything will be done to keep things
moving smoothly. It will all be worthwhile when we have a track worthy of our
name.
