All members will by now have received a membership renewal form for 2006. A few members have commented on the note accompanying the renewal notice that reminds members of their commitment when joining the Club, to compete when asked to do so by Team Managers. The Committee felt that it was necessary to issue such a reminder because in recent years, it has become common for some young people to join the Club in order to get fit for other sports, particularly football. The Club’s Coaches have made it clear that they are no longer prepared to give up their valuable time to coach such members if they are not willing to compete.

COACHING COORDINATION AT HORNCHURCH
are due to Pat Gahagan who has taken on the role of coaching coordinator
at Hornchurch. Pat is keen to establish a framework whereby all
disciplines will be covered by qualified coaches including, for example,
long and high jump. The Club is very short of qualified coaches in most
disciplines, therefore, if you are interested in taking a coaching
qualification or finding out more about what’s involved, please talk to
Pat at Hornchurch or Trevor Wells at Mayesbrook.
TRACK & FIELD FACILITIES
Club has recently placed a contract with an approved supplier for the
regular maintenance of the track and field facilities at Hornchurch
Stadium in line with UKA guidelines. Sharing use of the Stadium with AFC
Hornchurch will always bring problems with, for example, mud on the track
during the winter, but it is hoped that the new fortnightly visits by the
contractor will help to minimise the situation.
BOXING DAY HANDICAP
to all who took part in the annual Boxing day Handicap at Rise Park. 33
