Hornchurch Canteen to Close Next Week

From next week the canteen at Hornchurch Stadium will no longer be open.

The club have been asking for volunteers to come forward for many months, unfortunately, nobody has has offered to help.

The canteen at Hornchurch is the hub of the club’s activities as well as contributing considerably to the club’s finances.

It is very disappointing that from a club with over 600 members there is not a person or a small group who would be willing  to run or assist with this operation.

Should anyone be willing to take on this position please can they contact Club Chairman or Secretary Doug or Jean Tierney on 01708 341547 or any member of the club committee.

Please come along to the Club’s Annual General Meeting this Friday, March 10th (8pm) at the Havering Indoor Bowls Club, Harrow Lodge, Hornchurch. The bar will be open after the meeting but please note there is a dress code – no jeans!

The Club is organising two Spring Warm-Ups as follows:

Sunday, March 19th (Hornchurch) – Track only

80m, 150m, 300m, 600m, 1200m, 300m Hurdles  plus for U11’s,  80m and 600m.

Sunday, April 9th (Mayesbrook) – Full Programme.

Anybody prepared to help out at either or both meetings please contact Doug Tierney on 01708 341547.

It was with much sadness and regret that the Club learned of the death of Ted Chettleburgh.

Ted had been a member of the club since 1971, was a past President and Life Member, he was one of those rare breed of volunteers who have kept this club running over the years.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Letter from Ruth O’Sullivan

I would like to thank everyone for their total support at the time of my dad, Ted Chettleburgh's passing. As most of you know Ted was at the turnstile gates virtually up to the end taking the track fees for the Club. Your messages of sympathy, cards, phone calls and big hugs has been a great help to my family in trying to 'get through' this very sad time. We definitely gave Ted a great send off and again a big thank you to all who turned up on the day of the funeral and afterwards to celebrate his life. It has been a great comfort to know how many wonderful friends that we have at Havering Mayesbrook and I regard you as an extension of my family.

Thank you once again you are true friends.

Ruth O'Sullivan and Family.

Dinner and Dance (Disco)

A great evening was had by all at the club’s dinner and dance last week. Those of you who did not come  missed out on an excellent meal and the following disco had everyone dancing till midnight. Our thanks to Irene Brennan for organising this event.
