March 2011

Mayesbrook Arena

The Club has now received confirmation that we must vacate the Mayesbrook Arena by Saturday, March 19th.

The closure is to enable upgrading works to be carried out at the Arena (athletics track and new leisure centre) to make it ready for use as a 2012 Games Time Training venue for athletics, paralympic athletics and handball.

The Club will be unable to return to the Arena until late September 2012 but, on the plus side, we will benefit from Olympic standard facilities.

In the short term, we will face significant disruption. Plans are in hand for those coaches (and their athletes) currently based at Mayesbrook, to transfer to Hornchurch Stadium with effect from Monday, March 21st.

This will add to the existing problems of a busy track on training evenings but we know we can rely on all our coaches to work together to smooth the transition period.

Where possible, some of the incoming coaches may be able to commence training earlier (e.g. 6pm) to help alleviate track and field congestion.

Training and competition equipment will also be transferred to Hornchurch and, again, the co-operation of coaches will be essential.

The 2011 Track and Field season is fast approaching and the Club is still looking for the following Team Managers:

  •           U17 Women

  •           U13 Girls

If you are interested in helping the Club by filling one of these key roles, please contact Jean Tierney on 01708 341547.

For those who haven’t already done so, membership renewals for 2011 must be paid at the latest by March 31st

Due to the disruption at the Mayesbrook Arena, the Club will be hosting only one Winter Warm Up meeting this year, at Hornchurch. This will be a full meeting on April 2nd commencing at 10.30am (Field) 11.00a.m (Track).
