First  Aiders  Required  for  Hornchurch  and Mayesbrook

The club is currently looking to put on a Sports First Aid course at Hornchurch stadium probably on a Saturday. We are seeking volunteers (minimum age 18 years) to become the Cub’s official first aiders. The 1 day course will last approximately six hours. For club members, (Coaches, Team Managers etc) the course fee will be met by the Club. If parents/guardians wish to attend, the fee will be part subsidised by the club. The course covers how to deal with the type of injuries and medical emergencies that can happen during sporting activities. At the end of the course successful first aiders will be presented with a certificate of competence which is valid for 3 years.

If you are interested in attending please contact club secretary Jean Tierney or Derek Drew at the turnstiles at Hornchurch on Monday evenings.

Hornchurch Stadium

We are still pressing Havering Council for some form of lighting to be introduced on the pathway leading from the Bridge Avenue entrance down to the turnstiles. Would all parents please note that no vehicles are allowed to stop at the turnstiles to drop off athletes or to carry out three-point turns!

For the past three years we have been requesting a cycle rack to be installed at Bridge Avenue, it has been promised and promised by the local authority, but nothing gets done, what's new!!

Fluorescent Bibs

All athletes going on regular road runs as part of their winter training should wear a fluorescent bib or some other form of illumination (e.g. arm bands). Bibs are available from Irene Brennan at a discounted price of 3.50.

Receipts for Expenses

Anyone claiming expenses from the club, i.e. hotels, taxis, postage, etc., must produce a receipt before being paid out. We have to produce receipts to comply with the requirements of the club auditors.

Training Times at Hornchurch

As the club has now become responsible for locking up and turning off the floodlights at Hornchurch, we are requesting that all coaches and athletes complete their training sessions and vacate the stadium by 8.45.

Canteen Prices

From 1st November some price increases will be necessary in the canteens at Hornchurch and Mayesbrook.

Team Managers Required

Many thanks to all the team managers for this year’s results in track and field. Some of the managers have decided to retire and the club  will be seeking new team managers for next year’s track and field season. If you are interested please contact the club secretary, Jean Tierney.

Bill Woodberry Retiring

After decades of training our sprinters at Hornchurch, Bill Woodberry has decided it’s time to hang up his spikes. Bill has been a member since 1968 and we will all miss him. Everyone wishes him a long and happy gardening retirement.
