Increase in Track Fees from January 2008

For the first time for some years, members of the Club’s Finance & General Purposes Committee have agreed the following increases in track fees with effect from January 1st, 2008:

  • Members aged 10 but under 21                      1.20

  • Members aged 21 and over                            2.00

Annual membership subscriptions remain unchanged except for Season Tickets, which will be increased as follows:

  • Members aged 10 but under 21                      120

  • Members aged 21 and over                            180

These Season Ticket prices cover the annual subscription and track fees throughout the year and are good value if taken out in January.

Boxing Day Handicap

The Boxing Day Handicap will take place again this year. Start and finish is in Rise Park and the event commences at 10.30 a.m. over a course of 4.7 miles. All enquiries to organiser Pat Gahagan.

Essex Sportshall Dates

Essex Sportshall meetings will be held on Sundays December 9th, December 29th and January 30th. Further details are with Coaches and are available in Clubhouses

National Gold

The Club is very proud of Faye Fullerton, Harriet Scott and Alexa Joel who took the gold medal at the National Cross Country Relay Championships in Mansfield on Saturday, November 3rd. This was a fantastic performance with the team finishing 40 seconds clear of the runners-up. Well done girls!

This and all other competition results can be found on the Club’s excellent website – www.havering-mayesbrook.org/

SPRING WARM-UPS

A Spring Warm-Up meeting (Track and Jumps only) will be held at Hornchurch Stadium on Sunday, March 30th, 2008 commencing at 10.30am.

On the same day, a Throws only meeting will be held at Ilford Athletic Club. Havering Mayesbrook AC is hoping to also hold a Warm-Up meeting at the Mayesbrook Arena if the calendar allows. More news when we have it.

London Marathon 2008 Entries

The Club has four places available for the 2008 London Marathon. Anybody wishing to apply for one of these places and who can show a reject letter from the race organisers, should contact David Bland on 01277 231456. Good luck!

Team Managers

By the end of the year, the Club needs to have Team Managers in place for the 2008 Track and Field season. Currently, vacancies exist to manage the SWL team, the National Junior League team (women), Under-17s (Men and Women) in the EYAL and NYAL Leagues and also the Under-15s in the same leagues. If you are interested in taking on one of these team management roles, contact Jean Tierney on 01708 341547.

Volunteers Urgently Needed

Like most other athletic clubs, Havering Mayesbrook relies entirely on the efforts of volunteers. Not a single Club member receives payment for their time and all our Coaches, Administrators, Officials and other helpers give of their time freely.

However, the Club can never have enough volunteers to cover the wide range of jobs that need to be carried out week in, week out. If we had more qualified Coaches, for example, we could quickly eliminate the waiting lists of potential new members that exist at both Hornchurch and Mayesbrook.

If you are a parent of one (or more) of our young athletes or perhaps a senior athlete interested in moving into coaching or becoming an official, please let us know, Talk to any member of the Club Committee and /or ‘phone Jean Tierney, the Club Secretary on 01708 341547

Health & Safety

Committee members have become increasingly concerned about ‘an accident waiting to happen’ outside the turnstiles on Club evenings. The area is very dark – not ‘user friendly’ to young (and old) athletes going out on road runs – and cars seem to be entering and leaving the Stadium at greater speeds than ever before.

If you are a driver entering or leaving the Stadium, please slow to a crawl and be aware of athletes on the move. If you are an athlete regularly going out on a run, take care to be constantly aware of other people and cars entering and leaving.

The Club has asked the local authority to improve the lighting on the pathway and also to introduce speed bumps. Watch this space!

Cycle Rack at Hornchurch Stadium

The Club has been aware of many young athletes and in some cases parents who are taking the healthy option of leaving the car at home and cycling to Hornchurch stadium, especially during the summer months, we have been in touch with the local authority who have agreed to site a rack, probably in front of the toilet block. Let us hope that this will be completed before next summer.

The Club would like to take this opportunity to wish all members a very happy Christmas and a successful New Year

Track Chat is for all members of the athletic club - If you have any comments, suggestions, stories or articles you would like to have in TrackChat, please contact Derek Drew e-mail: derek.drew@ukonline.co.uk
