National Success for Essex Athletics Network

Some three years ago, Havering Mayesbrook AC was one of the founder members of the Essex Athletics Network and currently has two representatives on the Network’s Management Committee. Tony Benton is the Network’s Activator and has done a superb job in driving the Network forward to the extent that, a couple of months ago, it won the Eastern Region Award in the Network of the Year category and just a week or so ago, Tony was delighted to collect the National Award on behalf of the Network at the England Athletics Annual Awards ceremony in Birmingham. Well done to all concerned.

Jack Petchey Achievement Awards for Club athletes

Congratulations to the following Club members who recently received Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards – Isabella Purdie, Emma Sharp, Sarah Wilson, Molly Bath, Katie Mitchell, Joshua Olawore, Ellie Watson, Matthew Owers, Max Law, Riva Siggins, Harvey Addison. After brief presentations at the Stadium on a recent Club evening, the winners subsequently attended a Celebration Event at the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch.

Jack Petchey Leader's Award

Congratulations go to Sue Deane who was recently awarded a Jack Petchey Leader’s Award in recognition of her efforts over the years as a member of the Club’s Management Committee and, more recently, as a young athletes Coach. Sue’s award comes with a grant of 500 towards a small project of her choice. Well done Sue!

Training on the Roads - Be safe!

With the clocks having gone back last weekend, it is dark at the commencement of most evening training sessions. It is vital that EVERYBODY leaving the Stadium on a training run wears the appropriate fluorescent bib, vest or jacket.

All Coaches are responsible for ensuring that this happens and it is up to the older members to set a good example to the younger brigade.

Car Parking

The increased number of vehicles and the lack of marked bays in the car park at the Stadium has been a concern for some time. Regrettably, the cost of removing the shingle and providing suitable bays has proved to be too expensive for the local authority to take appropriate action. The situation would be improved to a certain extent if some drivers were more careful when parking, only leaving sufficient space between vehicles and not leaving unnecessarily large gaps.

Volunteers needed

The Club is looking for a couple of volunteers to assist with helping on the turnstiles and locking up on club nights. For many years, this work has fallen on the same two or three members of the Club Committee and, looking to the future, it is essential that additional help is forthcoming. If you think that you may be able to help and wish to know more about what is involved, please talk to Irene Brennan or Jean Tierney.

We are pleased to announce that Jeremy Watson, who trains with Tony Benton’s group, recently accepted an invitation to join the Finance & General Purposes Committee.

For your information, the other members of the Committee are:

Kevin White (President), Doug Tierney (Chairman), Irene Brennan (Treasurer),

Jean Tierney (Secretary), Claire Brennan (Vice Chairman),

Tony Benton (Coaching Coordinator), Dave Baggs, Mark Bishop, Sue Deane, John Duncan, Brian Kiernan, Claire Richards and Trevor Wells.
