Alpha Beta Trophy Haringey, Saturday 10 April 2004

Star performances from the under 17 contingent were the highlights at Haringey as the ladies were runners-up in the Alpha Trophy as Radley regained the title.

Performance of the day went to Lucy Sargent who ran a stunning 100m PB of 12.09s into a strong headwind (-1.3 m/s). It was two-tenths faster than her PB set last summer, and was just seven hundredths outside Fiona Page's 15 year old club u17 record and fourth best ever by a club female. It suggests a sub-12 secs clocking is on the cards this season. She later won the long jump in a PB of 5.34m, with most of the board to spare. 

Chloe van Wulven smashed the u17 record for 100m hurdles by four-tenths, clocking 15.16s, into an even stronger headwind (-2.8 m/s), which also ranks her third on the all-time senior list.  

In the middle distance events two other u17s provided winning efforts. Katie Richardson just missed her PB when winning the 1500m in style in 4m 40.59s, following the pace before kicking for home 200m out, while Lauren Clark partnered Laurie Cossey to an 800m double with a PB of 2m 20.28secs, after a blistering 64 secs opening lap. 

The rest of the senior team put in strong performances to finish second to Radley in their section. Laurie Cossey backed up her 800m success with a 400m third place and also filled a gap in the B 200m.  Claire Brennan was a good second in the 100m hurdles, was third in the one-lap hurdles event and scored useful javelin points, while younger sibling Nina was third in the B 400m hurdles, and fifth in the B 400m. Both sisters combined with Lucy Sargent and Hannah Gamester for fourth in the sprint relay. Gamester had earlier picked up points in both sprints. Completing the senior track line up was u17 Robyn Matson whose fast finish brought her runners up spot in the B 1500m. 

On the field points were harder to come by. Discus pairing of Lynsey Clark and Sarah Deacon were third and second in their event, and also combined to add shot points. Lauren McVicar made her senior debut but unfortunately slipped and injured herself in the javelin, while Chloe van Wulven and Lauren Clark scored in the high jump.

The u15s found the going tougher but Ingrid Deane was an impressive 1500m winner in a new PB of 5m 06.37s, with Clare Robinson smashing her PB for second in the B. 

Catrina McAuliffe was the only other winner, with a clear win in the u15 hurdles B race in a time close to her best despite the strong wind against with Nicola Hill a fraction faster for fourth in the A event. Both were busy competing in the long jump and sprints, joining Ingrid Deane and Amie Adams in the relay to close the meeting. Bethan Siddons equalled her best placing in third in the high jump, while Louisa Wood was fourth in the B 200m and gained discus points. Carla Schofield's best place was fourth in the B javelin, also contributing in the 100m and shot.  Adams picked up 800m and discus points,
