London Mini Marathon – Sunday, 17th April 2005

The London Boroughs' Mini Marathon was again a happy hunting ground for Havering on Sunday as the borough swept the board, winning four of the six individual races, and were also overall winners across the six age groups.

The girls were magnificent, winning each of their races, held over the last 4km of the course that would later that morning see their role model Paula Radcliffe’s senior success in the main event.

Last year’s 11/12 winner Ingrid Deane stepped up an age group to repeat her victory in the 13/14 Girls age group in an excellent time. Katie Richardson also notched up her second success in the event in the 15/16/17 age group while in the youngest age group, 11/12, Gemma  Phillips from Coopers School (& Chelmsford AC) took the first place trophy. Pride of place for the boys went to Matthew Bloy who ran superbly to take the 13/14 Boys race. All four winning athletes were interviewed post-race by Sue Barker for the BBC.

Other top ten performances included Sidnie Sales (6th 11/12 Girls), Eleanor Bounds (9th 11/12 Girls), Georgie-Lou Sales (8th 13/14 Girls), Megan Foley 2nd 15/16/17 Girls), Jamie Buckley-Stanton (4th 11/12 Boys), Stephen McLachlan (5th 13/14 Boys) and Ross Clarke (3rd 15/16/17 Boys.
