The combined senior ladies & U15 team made a solid start to the summer 2009 season when placing fifth in the Alpha Trophy at Lee Valley on Saturday.

Sara Luck and Ingrid Deane provided the only track victories for the senior team with a double in the 1500m, with Luck clocking 4m 40.69s for A string success and Ingrid’s 5:01.45s performance taking B string honours.

The ever-reliable Mel Harrison provide the only field event victory with an emphatic discus win, taking the event by over 5m with her 37.49m effort, also placing third in the shot. Lauren Clark was second in the B discus and Emma Christmas & Zoë Young were both runners up in the A & B javelin with 37.56m and 31.17m respectively.

Chloe Van Wulven’s come back continued with A string runners up spots in both high jump (1.60m) and hurdles (14.82s) and she was also fourth in the B 200m. Vicky Smith contributed an 800m A string third place while Katie Richardson & Nina Brennan were both fourth in their 400m races, as was Claire Brennan in the 400m hurdles event.  Chekube Onwuka and Hannah Gamester completed the squad.

Debbie Knight’s hat-trick of wins led the way for the U15s. She posted victories in both javelin & discus A string competitions, and her hurdles PB brought her B string success, as fast improving Rylie Trott also smashed her career best to win the A string hurdles race.  Erin Baggs successfully partnered Debbie to a discus double.

Avril Loynes and Hannah Bloy turned in good performances with fourth and second in the 1500m, while sprinters Bethany Chambers, Lucy Allen and Sophie Reynolds gained useful early season experience and improved their PBs to support the U15 squad.
