The track season started in style at sunny Haringey today as the under 15 girls won their section of the Alpha Trophy for the third year in a row. But a strong performance by the Radley Ladies seniors took the senior title and brought them overall victory.

Louise Yard started the under 15s on the road to success in the first event smashing her discus PB with a winning 27.92m effort to go close to an English schools qualifier. She later returned to place second in the shot and third in the javelin. Lisa Schofield made it a discus double winning the B string and came within a hundredth of a second of a B string 75m hurdles win when she was edged out on the line.  Chloe van Wulven was heading for a new PB and second place when she hit the last hurdle. She just managed to stay upright but staggered and just made it across the line to place fourth.

The under 15 sprints also produced excellent performances. Cherelle Westlake won the 100m by the narrowest margin in a new personal best of 13.01 secs and made it a sprint double, wining the B string 200m in a new best of 27.16.. Lucy Sargent improved her 100m PB by three-tenths to 13.54 secs to place second and added another PB when she won the B long jump with a 4.51m leap. Last season's sprint find Christina Kalejaiye returned from injury to place third in the A 200m and for good measure won the B shot. Westlake, Sargent, and Kalejaiye combined with Helen McDonnell to win the 4x100m relay.

McDonnell came from behind to win the A string high jump with a 1.49m clearance while her partner Emma Bonny placed second in the B competition. Emma had earlier been denied long jump victory on countback when her best of 4.90m counted for nothing as it was equalled by the Radley competitor who had a better second effort.

Megan Foley lost out in a ding dong 1500m battle with Radley's Caroline Plateau. The two evenly matched athletes battled it out before Megan struck for home on the last lap and seemed to have the race in the bag before the Radley girl responded to overhaul her in with 50m left. In the B event Lauren Clark tackled the distance for the first time and was rewarded with victory in a good time. The versatile Clark also placed third in the B javelin. In the 800m the pairing of Katie Richardson and Robyn Delivett placed second and fourth respectively.

For the seniors Faye Fullerton was in sparkling form as she took two seconds off Ann Reason's 1500 meeting record with a front running performance while Lauren Deadman similarly won the 800m from the front in a time close to her best. Veteran Lesley Felton opened her track account with a good fourth place.

Kate Brewington was a good winner in the long jump and finished third in the high jump but crashed out of the 100m hurdles when contesting a thrilling head to head with Radley's Kay Reynolds. Not only did Kate score no points as a result but her crash affected teammate Claire Brennan in the adjacent lane in the combined A & B race, whose hurdles were also knocked over. Claire gamely continued despite the missing obstacles and finished second but would have surely been close to her best time.  She had no such misfortune in the 400m hurdles event  when she ran superbly to place second taking almost three seconds off her best time to record a new PB of 69.89 secs.

Hannah Gamester improved her best this year to take the B long jump event and placed sixth in the 100m. Her sprint partner Terri Johnson was third in the 100m race and seventh in the longer 200m sprint, where Laura Jones placed a good second in the B competition. Gamester, Jones, Johnson and Kate Brewington formed the sprint relay quartet which placed third.

Good points were gained as the 400m pairing of training partners Laurie Cossey and Hayley Mottram placed fourth and second respectively.

Sarah Deacon contested three throwing events but was pushed back into fifth against good quality opposition. Melissa Felton won the  B discus and picked up shot points, while hurdler Claire Brennan scored B javelin points. Completing the team was Corrina Keevil who gained fourth place points in the high jump.
