Blackpool 3rd
August 2002
Following
the match result at Blackpool the Senior Men’s team face a hard fight in their
final fixture at Rugby to retain National League status.
Although
7th in the match at Blackpool, they could never be accused of not
giving their all for the Club. Mark Bishop performed his usual heroics,
competing in 6 events and producing 5 season best performances, the highlight
being a 53.54m Javelin Throw. Leo Barker took on 7 events, performing well in
all especially a 6.31 Long Jump.
Phil
Sadler’s long term injury, although he still turned out for the Club, meant
that Scott Spencer had a busy day, equalling his PB in the 100m before taking on
the 200m, 400m and both relays.
Brother’s
Stephen and David Kearns helped greatly with the points tally taking on between
them the 400m Hurdles, 3000m Steeplechase, 100m, 200m and helped out in the
relays.
Kevin
Benton had a good day placing 3rd in the 400m Hurdles B race in 57.9
and 5th in the 110m Hurdles in 16.4. Injury to Graham Pritchard meant
a change for Rob Dickenson who ran both the 1500m and 5000m.
The
track highlight was Gavin Maley’s 3rd place in the 800m with a pb
of 1:51.6 edged out by two Under 23 Internationals. He followed it up with an
excellent run in the 1500m, finishing in 2nd place in 3:58.7. Add to
that a Triple Jump of 10.99 and a leg of the 4 x 400m he had a good, but tiring
day.
Havering
Mayesbrook AC still stand in 6th place in the League after three
matches. They need to perform well and finish ahead of Swindon and Bolton in the
final match of the season at Rugby on the 31st
to ensure their eighth consecutive season in National Athletics.
