A good opening performance at a blustery Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow saw the Men's British League team place sixth. But after a series of PBs and season's bests a disastrous blank in the 200m took the shine of the day.

After taking runners up spot in the 100m and taking maximum points in the 400m in a stiff breeze Richard Morrissey stepped in at short notice to fill a vacant slot in the 200m. But on reporting to the start he realised that he had left his spikes in the indoor warm up area. The officials said they would wait for him but the race went ahead without him, and B string Ammad Masood was then not allowed to run as there had been no A race runner. Almost certainly these lost points cost the squad fifth place.

There were personal bests and good points from both 400m hurdlers. Isaac Ogunlade improved his week-old PB to place third in the A string, and in the B race Adam McCarthy's new best earned him runners up spot.

Under 20s Emmanuel Quarshie & Jamie Buckley-Stanton both improved their previous marks. Quarshie launched the senior shot beyond 13m to jump to seventh on the club all-time lists and also improved his discus best, while Jamie bettered his 1500m, but both could finish only fifth against strong opposition.  Grant Twist's 800m PB earned him third place points and Mat Bland was also third in the B 1500m..

The steeplechase pairing of Rob Warner and Jason Lendon both improved their season's bests and gained third place points into the bargain. English Schools champion Jimi Tele was second in the triple jump, with Anthony Williams was third in the B string.

Veteran skipper Mark Bishop competed for the first time this summer and contested five events gathering points in high jump, pole vault, hurdles, shot & discus and Stuart Tufton was fifth in the B vault.

In the javelin Sam Harrison's season's best earned him sixth place points and there was welcome return from George Bean who was second in the B javelin.

The track team was boosted by newly appointed Club Chairman Chris Smith who was fifth in the 5000m, with Jason Lendon doubling up in the B string to place a fine fourth after his 'chase. The unfortunate Ammad Massood, who missed out in the 200m incident had earlier placed in the 100mn, while Shaun Stewart equalled his 400m season's best for fifth, also finishing fifth in the long jump. 17-year-old Massi Dendani gained useful tactical experience in the A 800m before joining Shaun, Isaac and Richard in the 4x400m squad which finished third.

After their long trip northwards the team next face a trip to Yeovil in Somerset on 2nd July where they are hoping for an improved result.
