After a battling first round third place at Yeovil the British League Men's squad were hoping for a similar performance closer to home at Mile End in their Round 2 National 4 match at Mile End on Saturday. But injuries and withdrawals cost the team dear as they finished a disappointing fifth and will need to improve in the final two fixtures in a closely matched division.

Once again the highlights came on the field with six victories, all event doubles. Ed Thompson won his second A string vault victory & Luke Williams took B string honours.  Laurence Goodacre improved his PB in winning the shot, with Emmanuel Quarshie victorious in the B string. Goodacre also full points in the B discus as Duane Jibunoh took the A string victory.

The steeplechase again provided the best track result as Rob Warner came home 15 seconds clear and Jason Lendon's third place in the combined race took B string honours. George Hadler's sprint hurdles PB placed him third & he was also fourth in the 200m & fifth in the 400m hurdles, where Jeremy Watson placed second in the B and added sprint hurdles, high jump & triple jump points.

Higher competition athlete Brad Armorgie was second in the high jump and competed in both relays.  Matt Bland & Ian Anthony were fourth and third in the 5000m while Paul Grange & Jamie Buckley-Stanton were both fourth in their 1500m & 800m B strings after paring each other in the A string races also.

Nathan Steele & Dere Coker, who have both just rejoined the club after a break, made their league debuts and scored valuable points for the cause, as did javelin duo Sam Harrison (fifth) and Pat Lear (fourth).

The seaside beckons for the final two fixtures as the squad face the daunting trip to Par, in Cornwall on 5th July with a final fixture at Bournemouth four weeks later which will decide the league positions.
