The Men's team were a battling fourth in their opening British League match at Portsmouth on Saturday but it could have been worse after a series of withdrawals left the squad shorthanded.

Reliable 'Chasers Rob Warner and Jason Lendon served up a double-delight on the track as they won both strings of the 3k steeplechase & Rob added a points in the 3k flat race.  Tom Pitkin provided the other track win in the B 400m hurdles on his debut and added a 400m flat PB while A string hurdler George Hadler was runner up in the 400m hurdles in a season's best, and improved his best in the sprint hurdles, as well as adding sprint points.  Alex Law kept busy with wins in the A long jump and B javelin, and points in high jump & 400m as well as joining George & Tom in both relay squads.

Laurence Goodacre was close to his best in winning the shot and smashed his discus best to win the B event, as Duane Jibunoh won the A. Both athletes added to the points tally as Duane competed in hammer & shot, while Laurence tackled the triple jump for the cause.

Luke Williams won the B vault, with Ed Thompson third in the A, and both also answered the call to fill gaps in other events.  Sam Harrison was third in the javelin & scored in the hammer, while Sydney Conteh marked his league debut with long jump & 100m points and a relay leg.

Paul Grange and Jamie Buckley-Stanton also made the trip to the south coast to cover both 800m & 1500 for vital points, as did Matt Bland in the 3000m B event.

Team manager Peter Estcourt had worked hard to recruit a team and will be hoping for an easier job and a better turn out in the second round at Reading next month.
