Havering's men's squad turned in a superb performance to place second in their second round British League fixture at Reading on Saturday.

A brilliant series of results in the field events produced nine victories and a new club record. Laurence Goodacre's winning shot put of 15.82m was not only a new personal best by almost half a metre but also erased Scott Hayes' 24-year-old club record from the books, set a year before Laurence was born. Laurence was also runner up in the discus and fourth in the hammer. Georgie Bean's winning javelin throw of 57.16m was the sixth best ever by a club athlete and improved his best set seven years ago, as coach Sam Harrison won the B and Duane Jibunoh won the discus.

US-based Jimi Tele marked his return to England and club colours with triple jump victory and John Adekoya won the B. Josh Olawore was close to his best in winning the long jump, as was Alex Law in winning the B. Bradley Armorgie's high jump victory and pole vault third places from Luke Williams & Vet 60+ Stuart Tufton ensured Havering had a field day.

There were a series of good performances on the track too. Timi Kuye marked his league debut with a win in the B 200m after placing third in the 100m B, as A string Lewis Bailey dipped below 11 seconds for the first time in the A.  Jason Lendon again won the B chase, as Rob Warner was third in the A and also fourth in the B 5000m as Alfie Waithaka was a fine third on his track debut in the B. Paul Grange improved his best in both 400m, placing third, and the 800m, and George Hadler was runner up in the sprint hurdles in a new best and third in the 400m hurdles, with Karl Tucker third in the B sprint hurdles. Track points from Billy Rungay (400m & 800m), and the 1500m pairing of Matt Bland and Jamie Buckley-Stanton all helped Havering into second place at the half-way stage of the four-match campaign, with all still to play for.
