The men’s British League squad are still in the promotion hunt after a fourth place finish in their third round fixture at a blustery Bournemouth on Saturday.

Josh Olawore won both sprints, with his 200m time faster than his recent club best and his 100m time being his fastest ever without excessive following wind.  Josh also returned to long jump action to finish second in a season’s best.  Lewis Bailey’s PB placed him second in the 200m and Nathan Steele was third in the 100m, as was chaser Rob Warner who clocked a season’s best for third to defy the windy conditions - the gusts has earlier caused the pole vault to be cancelled on safety grounds. Jason Lendon defied a calf injury to finish the B chase in fifth

The rest of the track team were affected by withdrawals but battled hard for points as the hurdles pairing of George Hadler and Karl Tucker were both fourth in the 400m hurdles event while Jamie Buckley-Stanton (800m & 1500m) and veteran Matt Bland (800m & 5000m) added middle distance points, as did Ben Davis on his league debut. Matt Owers and Sydney Conteh completed the track line up with 400m points.

The throws again produced a rich crop of points as Laurence Goodacre and Emmanuel Quarshie scored maximum points in the shot, Duane Jibunoh won the discus and was javelin runner up, and his B string partners Graham Holder and Sam Harrison were second and fourth in the discus and javelin respectively. Holder was also third in the hammer.  Also on the field Chuko Cribb was runner up in both high and triple jumps.

The squad are second a point behind Newquay & Par and a point ahead of Bournemouth ahead of the deciding fixture at Yeovil on 6th August. Team manager Peter Estcourt said afterwards “It was disappointing to lose third place to Trafford as we were ahead of them going into the relays. The squad did their best to keep us in touch of promotion but with several regulars unavailable we face a tough fight for one of the two promotion places”.
