A third successive victory for the British League Men's team at Rugby on Sunday ensured their promotion as champions to National 2 Division.

A fine all round team performance was headlined by six victories and the same number of runners up places. Joe Ramie provided the two A string wins taking full points in both long and triple jumps, and adding points in both sprints and running legs in both relays.

Good points came over the barriers courtesy of skipper Jason Lendon's B string 'chase victory and Rob Warner's A string second place and Karl Tucker's B string 400m hurdles win and A string sprint hurdles fourth in a new PB. Luke Williams added B hurdles fourth to fourth in his pole vault speciality and Adam McCarthy's season's best placed sixth in the 400m hurdles A.

Shandell Taylor won the B long jump and added third in the B triple jump and fourth in the high jump, while John Adekoya (high jump A) and veteran vaulter Stuart Tufton (pole vault B) contributed fifth places; Adekoya was third in the 100m B.

The throwing events as usual pile up points. Laurence Goodacre's season's best saw him continue his shot putt league winning sequence and Emmanuel Quarshie made no mistake with victory in the B string.  Duane Jibunoh was second in his favoured discus and also the B javelin, with Graham Holder second in the B discus and third in the hammer and Georgie Bean return to club colours rewarded with second place in the javelin A.

Tom Pitkin (400m A), Timi Kuye (200m B) and Ben Davis (800m B) all added fourth places while Fraser Boston (400m B), Finn Hutton (800m & 1500m), Jamie Buckley-Stanton (5000m) and Nathan Steele (relay) all helped the team to victory.

After placing fifth in the opening fixture promotion had seemed an unlikely outcome but wins at Chelmsford and Bedford turned the season round and the win at Rugby added a final flourish to a successful 2017 season.
