Havering’s British League men’s squad kept up their promotion hunt by finishing fourth at Kingston on Saturday, as the hosts used home advantage to claim a comfortable victory.

The middle distance races provided the best points return on the track with third paces for Max Jones (800m), 1500m runners Grant Twist & Jamie Buckley-Stanton (PB) and the 5000m duo of James Connor & Ben Davis, on his debut at this event. Rob Warner added another third in the ‘chase as Sam Atkins was fourth in the B.

The throws also chalked up good points as Craig Lacy & Baddar Echakhch were second and first in the javelin, and Lacy added another second in the B shot as Laurence Goodacre was third in the A. Duane Jibunoh was discus runner-up with Goodacre fourth in the B. Shandell Taylor had to settle for second in the long jump.

Richard Akinyebo took full points in the B 100m, Luke Williams was fourth in the B sprint hurdles, and the 4x 400m quartet of Matthew Agnimel, Fraser Boston, Akeem Akintokun and Max Jones were third.

Fifth place points were earned by Ayo Akingbehin (100m), Michael Shonibare (200m), the 400m pairing of Akeem Akintokun and Fraser Boston, the returning Jason Lendon filling a 400m hurdles gap and the sprint relay squad of Richard, Michael, Akeem and Ayo Akingbehin. Tom Keevil, in his first outing after A levels in the 800m, sprint hurdler Karl Tucker and 400m hurdler Adam McCarthy completed the line-up.

The day was marred for Havering as vaulter Peter Brinton-Quinn broke an ankle and badly damaged ligaments after a heavy landing, and unfortunately will see no further action this summer.

Glasgow top the table after two second places, and are likely to extend their lead as they host next time out but Havering, Kingston & Crawley are on their heels, with all to play for.
