Boxing Day Handicap, Raphael Park - Thursday 26th December 2019

On a wet morning, a record 65 athletes run the annual Boxing Day Handicap where the race is time staggered so in theory everyone has a chance of winning !

Havering AC and Havering 90 athletes made up most of the field but they were joined by athletes from Harold Wood, Ilford and Dagenham 88 in the open race entry for the Dave Bland trophy.

A fantastic run from John Whitehead saw him lead Havering’s Men home, with Ginte Bailey equally impressive in taking the Women’s title.

The U20s Men's title went to Sam Atkins in a great time of 25.26 - second only to Rob Warner's 25:19 clocking, with the U20 Women won by Kate O’Neill who was fastest women at 28.09 for the 4.8 mile course.

The Open Handicap race for the Dave Bland trophy was won by Lisa Gaskin from Havering 90, with Grace Bacon – East London, and Steph Phillips – Havering 90 Joggers in third.

In the process 125 was raised for Saint Francis Hospice from donations, and everyone seemingly enjoyed the event.

With thanks to Martin Chester, Joanne Reeves and all those volunteers who made it possible
