Club:Connect Relays - Olympic Stadium Sunday 21st July 2019

Three teams of young athletes did the club proud at the Club:Connect relays, with all three improving club records and the Under 15 boys coming home in front.

These invitation only events bring together the top sprint relay teams from the south and start off the London Anniversary Games Diamond League programme at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

This was the club's third appearance at this prestigious event and by far the most successful.  Last year the Under 15 girls quartet broke the club record in fourth place, and this year the foursome of Paige Robinson, Paris King, Stephanie Okoro and Uche Okpalauko trimmed the record they had set the previous day at Bromley with their 49.49s clocking.

They were followed on the track by the Under 15 boys quartet of Charlie Black whose blistering start set up Jacob Blanc to charge down the back straight to hand over to Jack Botha whose perfect change to Denzel Achi on the anchor leg took the squad into the lead from which they were headed. Their time of 44.82s took a full second off their new record the previous day and confirmed their position at the top of the UK Club rankings.

The Under 17 men team of Michael Okoro, Sam Sanusi, Somto Okpalauko and Malcolm Oshungbohun were the last club squad to compete and running from Lane 9 came home in eighth and their time of 44.63s was inside the club best dating back to 1981.

It was a memorable day for the young athletes who got to meet members of the UK men's relay squad on the warm up track. Club teams hope to return in strength next year to compete in the iconic stadium.
