English Schools Cross Country Championships, Temple Newsam, Leeds 16th March 2019

Kate O'Neill won a superb bronze medal in her final English Schools Cross Country Championships at Leeds on Saturday to round off a fine season.

It was National runner-up Jess Mitchell who made the early pace in the wet and windy conditions in the senior girls' race, but as she dropped back on the second lap, before later dropping out, Kate O'Neill moved into the leading group of three. In the later stages she took on the lead but a late charge from Inter Counties Under 17 winner India Pentland (Durham) won gold and Georgia Hayes (Berkshire) edged Kate into bronze.  Sophie Rand also brought her English Schools career to a close in 106th.

Natalie Sewell again made the top 20 with her 20thplaced finish in the junior girls event, with Chloe Rand in 133rd, while  Sydney Foley moved up to the Inter girls' age group to place 73rd.
