The HMAC u17 team missing several athletes either at the junior league or South of England champs, hold onto third place in the EYAL Division 1 despite winding up third at Chelmsford on Sunday as the full strength host club and local rivals Basildon pulled out all the stops.

The usually strong u17s suffered most and only Louise Yard (shot) and Lucy Davies (NB discus) won for the girls, and just a Luchien Anderson triple jump win gained first place points for the boys. In contrast the u15 girls put up a strong performance with seven track and two field wins thanks to Frankie Calder (100 & 200m), Louisa Wood (200m B) and a clean sweep of middle distance events from Ingrid Deane & Hayley Thomas (800m) and Clare Robinson & Charlotte Humphreys (1500m).  On the field Nicola Hill & Lauren Newton made it a discus double.

The u15 boys showed good form with 10 track & two field successes. The wining combinations came from Eugene Ayanful (100m) , Gary Tonks (B 200m), Matt Bloy (400 & 800) - ably supported by B wins from Joe Calder (400m) and Paul Adair (800m). Uzoma Nnajuiba and Chris Handley crossed the line together in the combined A & B string hurdles for double victory in PB times, while Brad Tungatt & Steve McLachlan also doubled up to win both 1500m strings. Craig Moore (discus) and Vincent Lazaro (long jump) were the field event winners.

In the youngest u13 age groups Harrison Ellis again grabbed the headlines with shot & high jump PBs, taking him to 2nd & 3rd on the club all time lists. Thomas Shanney won the B 800m, Simon Brown the discus and Jack Richardson the B long jump. For the girls Lilla Jacks sprinted to 100m success while Laura Bunton was dominant in the longest event the 1500m B, close behind teammate Georgia Davies, 2nd in the A race. Jessica Humphreys and Samantha Hill made a winning pair in the discus.

With two fixtures left the team are well on course for their target place in the League Final, for which the top six qualify.
