The combined boys & girls young athletes team recorded a narrow 6 point victory over hosts Stevenage on Sunday in the final EYAL fixture. Their win took them above Herts Phoenix to a second place league finish as Bedford took the team title.

A superb performance from the dominant u15 boys' squad set up overall victory. They won A & B doubles in all five field events and added three track doubles, and two more A string wins. Bradley Reece won three throws and Ben Warden two, while Nat Senior recorded a high & long jump double to add to his 100m B success. There was also double delight for Eugene Ayanful (100 & 200), Matt Bloy (400m & 1500m) and Matt Watkins (400m & 800m) while Joe Webster's 800m B win completed the victory tally. 

The powerful u17 Men also emerged victorious thanks to an all round team display. Win doubles were gained by Harry Tyler & Christian Newton (javelin), and Mike Waller and Andrew Luck (400m) while Anthony Williams (long jump B), Richard Demko (hurdles) and Chris Clements (200m B) earned top place points, as did the sprint relay quartet.

Team work earned good points for the u13 girls team with wins from Rebecca Clements (100m B), Sam Hill (shot) and a discus double from Rebecca Luck and Jessica Humphreys, the latter also setting a new hurdles PB.

A depleted u17 women's section nevertheless earned good points with Louise Yard notching a throws treble, with wins in the A shot and B javelin & discus where her A string partners Emma Christmas (javelin) and Lauren Clark (discus) also came out on top. Clark, who has been kept off the track with a foot injury since June, made a welcome return with a 800m runners up spot. Robyn Delivett was a good 300m winner while in form Helen Roche almost dipped under 5 minutes in winning the 1500m.

There were thin pickings for the u15 girls with a 1500m win double from Clare Robinson & Jade Edwards, am 800m victory for Charlotte Humphreys, and a B 200m win for Ingrid Deane the main successes, while emerging star Harrison Ellis again took the headlines winning the high jump plus two runners up spots for the u13 boys.

The team now look forward to a typical end of season flourish in the competitive League final at Bedford in three weeks 12 September) where they will face the hosts & champions Bedford, Herts Phoenix, Cambridge & Coleridge and Essex rivals Basildon and Chelmsford.
