Second place points in the final fixture at Ware on Sunday behind a powerful Basildon squad, ensured that the HMAC have again qualified for the end of season Trophy Final at Bedford in September.

Bonne Buwembo again stole the show, as his rich vein of javelin form continued. His 57.85m throw added over two metres to his week-old PB and took him to second in the UK rankings. It puts him in a confident mood ahead of this weekend's AAAs u17 championships at Birmingham where he faces strong competition from UK lead & English Schools' champion Alex Sheppard and Sam Allan and Jamie Payne who have also thrown over 57m.

Bonne's u17 men's teammates also contributed well to the cause. Chris Clements ran well to win both 100 & 200m B strong races and Richard Demko improved his hurdles PB in winning the 100m event  despite hitting a hurdle hard late home and not sprinting home. He also tackled the triple jump where he also set a new career best in second place, as Vince Lazaro took the B string honours. Ashley Reece was in winning form in the 800m and Chris McLachlan won the B 1500m, as u15 Matt Bloy stepped up an age group to place 2nd in the u17  A 1500m event. Another u15 to step up an age group was Steve Payne who answered the call at short notice and performed with credit in the combined 800m event against athletes two or three years older than him, setting a new PB in the process.

Despite not having Matt Bloy to call on the u15 boys put up a powerful show. Steve McLachlan took full advantage of Matt's absence to win the 1500m A race while Joe Webster did likewise in the 800m A event. Webster also sprinted to victory in the 400m B race and Ben Warden's PB brought him victory in the 400m A race. He made it a double with a B discus victory while his cousin Chris Warden was also in winning form with success in the high jump. But Chris' PB-equalling 80m hurdle run was only good enough for second.  Devon Samson made it a high jump double with his B string winning leap and Georgie Bean won the A javelin.

Frankie Calder took the spotlight for the girls' team with her winning treble. She powered to wins in the u15 category 100m & 300m and used her strength to good advantage with victory in the shot. Ingrid Deane and Jennifer Holland doubled up with A & B 1500m wins in the same age group.

Lisa Schofield has rarely been beaten at club level this season at her 80m hurdles speciality and made no mistake with an easy win at Ware. The only other wins for the u17s came in the discus where the two Laurens - Clark & Newton - came out on top in both A & B competitions. Both recorded PBs in other events as Lauren Clark improved her 200m PB and Lauren Newton threw further than before in the javelin.

Alex Edwards continues to impress for the u13 girls winning both sprints and her 100m time took her to 6th on the club all-time age group ranking. She added a shot PB for good measure. Eleanor Bounds added maximum points in the 1500m.

The u13 boys faced strong opposition and the only wins came from Michael Jones & Sam Swain who both recorded winning efforts in the discus. The versatile pair did well in other events Jones added a shot PB and placed 3rd in the 800m and Swain was second in the 1500m.
