The Eastern Young Athletes Team got their season off to a flying start with a victory of the powerful Chelmsford squad in the first round fixture at St Albans on Sunday. It was the second longest throw by an u15 in the UK this year, and second best ever by a HMAC athlete, beaten only by Bonne Buwembo's AAAs winning club record two years ago. Other wins from the u15 boys came in the sprints where Liam Hughes recorded a 100/200m double, Gabriel Makinwa's B 100m win, and Michael Jones' 400m B victory. Makinwa also double dup with a long jump B victory and other B string successes went to Lewis Williams (shot) and Bradley Burr (javelin). The u17 men dominated the age group notching up no fewer than 11 wins. A string wins were gained by Paul Adair (800m), Daniel Winters (1500m), Chris Warden (00m hurdles), and Vincent Lazaro (long jump - PB). Lazaro also won the triple jump B, and Joseph Ramie took long jump B maximum points. In the throws Ben Warden (shot) and Bradley Reece (discus) took the B string honours and on the track Matt Bloy won both 400 & 800m B and Steve MacLachlan added another win in the 1500m B. The U15 girls recorded some good results with three A string & five B string wins. There was gain double discus delight as Becky Luck & Sam Hill both extended their career best in winning A & B - and Hill added a shot PB too. Kike Oniwinde & Sidnie Sales also cleaned up in the javelin, Sales added an A 1500m win for good measure and her B string partner Emma Fox also took full points in the B. In the sprints Alex Edwards won the B 200m and Rebecca Clements improved her 100m PB. The most impressive track performance went to Eleanor Bounds whose 1500m winning time of 5m 08.3s - faster than both U15 & u17 races - took her to fifth on the club all-time U13 list. Rebecca O'Neill and Nicola Peachey made it an 800m double, and another double came in the discus where Sophie Baggs and newcomer Lanhan Leary-Kiernan won both strings. Simbiat Salami won the B 200m.
