The Eastern Young Athletes squad powered to a 230 point win at Braintree on Sunday. The absence of many athletes unavailable due to holidays or other commitments gave the team managers the chance to ring the changes compared to the winning squad from Tonbridge seven days earlier but it did nothing to dent the huge winning points tally.

The u15 girls were in impressive form with 13 individual wins, with Kike Oniwinde throwing the javelin over 30m and setting a shot PB, Angela James winning both hurdles & high jump, Jennifer Holland winning both 1500m & high jump B strings and Jess Humpheryes victorious in both discus & B javelin. Leah Summers & Nicole Dalton both set PBs in a winning 300m double, while Lucy Newman (200m B) and debutant Kelly Jarrold (B hurdles) completed the U15 dominance. Alex Edwards and Lilla Jacks joined Summers & Newman in the winning relay quartet.

The u13 boys also dominated their age group, with nine individual wins. Charlie Smith sprinted to a 100m/200m double, with Harry Picking winning the 200m B. Tyler Bennett doubled up for 800m & B long jump wins, while hurdles duo Frederick Mokoso & Jon Seekings won A & B events. Seekings added the 1500m B event for good measure and Jake Nelson jumped higher than the rest in the high jump.  The 4x100m relay team of Rhys Stevenson, Charlie Smith, Fred Mokoso & Harry Picking finished the day in style when they equalled the club record set in 1995.

The u17 Men had 10 individual wins. The powerful javelin pairing of Bonne Buwembo & Cafer Gunay swept the board in A &B strings, and there were also event doubles for Paul Adair & Daniel Loynes (400m), and Vince Lazaro & Joseph Ramie (long jump). Daniel McDowall (200m), Daniel Winters (1500m) & Grant Twist (hurdles) added B string maximums and the winning relay foursome comprised McDowall & Gunay, plus Alan Vardon & Marlon Moseley.

The U15 boys won 9 events & the relay.  There were just three A string wins from Simon Brown (1500m), Jordan Jackson (discus) and Georgie Bean (javelin) and in each event Havering Mayesbrook took the B spoils through Callum Sutton, Michael Jones & Bradley Burr.  Additional B first places went to John Whitehead (800m), Robert Lofthouse (hurdles) and Bean again (shot).

The u17 women couldn’t match the exploits of the other age groups but covered the events well and provided four B wins thanks to Alex Beard (800m), Becky Owen (1500m), Kathy Yoka (triple jump) and Carla Schofield (javelin).
