The Eastern Young Athletes squad had a landslide victory against weak opposition on home territory at Mayesbrook Park on Sunday. Their massive 770 points total was nearly 350 points clear of Southend. The home side, fielding a full team took the honours in all six age categories. The U17 women had three A string & five B string successes with Alex Beard (800m) , Emma Fox (1500) and Becky Luck contributing the A victories. The U15 girls also had just three A wins thanks to Rebecca O’Neill (1500m), and throws pairing Sam Hill (discus) and Kike Oniwinde (javelin) and five B string wins. Debbie Knight achieved two of the four A string wins for the U13 girls, with an impressive Sacha Martin winning the high jump in 1.36m to go into the club all time sixth in this age group. The U17 men dominated their section with no less than six A and eight B victories, plus a relay win. George Bean won javelin & shot, plus B discus, while Joseph Ramie’s triple jump PB earned him full points and he also won B javelin. A string track wins went to David Creedon (100m hurdles) and Grant Twist (1500m). The U15s did not have things their own way but still came out on top. Michael Jones powered to a 400m victory and Brad Burr’s javelin win were the only A string maximums and there were three B string successes. The U13s won two A & four B events with Ryan O’Mahoney in good shape in the 800m and Fred Mokoso’s hurdles win completed the winning score. A sterner test will come this weekend when the team step up to face strong opposition in their opening fixture in the National Young Athletes League Southern Premier Division at Barnet Copthall Stadium, Hendon. |
