The young athletes squad rounded off their league season in style, winning comfortably in the fifth fixture at Thurrock to place second in the league stakes. They now face the league champions Bedford and the third to sixth place teams in the end of season “Top six” trophy at Chelmsford. The U15 girls produced the usual glut of wins, with track A victories for Alex Edwards (200m), Eleanor Bounds (800m) Rebecca O’Neill (1500m). Kike Oniwinde produced a javelin & shut double. There were no less than seven B successes with wins in all three throws (Sam Hill – shot, Sophie Baggs – discus and Hannah McWeeney – javelin) a double from Jess Seekings (300m & hurdles), and Rebecca Clements (200m) and Rachel Sadler (1500m). Sharmila Golan performed beyond the cause of duty in the 800m. At the end of the first lap she stopped feeling unwell, stepped off of the track and was sick then carried on to finish and score four valuable points for the team. The U17 women racked up the points with Esther Tele finally celebrating her club debut with a trio of wins in both sprints & long jump. Leah Summers provided strong support with a B sprints double. Versatile Angela James also had a win treble with a hurdles & javelin (PB) and B high jump successes. Rachel Kerr & Jade Timothy added B wins in 1500m & hurdles. Bethan Siddons & Becky Luck doubled up for triple jump victory and U15 Lannahn Leary-Kiernan stepped up effortlessly to win both discus & javelin B strings. The U17 men had three A victories thanks to Danny Winters (800m) Joseph Ramie (triple jump) and Georgie Bean whose javelin PB of 56.08m took him to third on the club all time list. There were no fewer than six B wins – John Whitehead (400m & 800m), Chris Lowe (1500) and newcomer George Eastman (hurdles). Bradley Reece (shot) and Jordan Jackson (discus) also won B honours. The U13 boys found wins harder to come by but Luke Overton produced a double in A discus & B 1500m and Tyler Bennett made it a discus double. Sacha Martin’s high jump PB of 1.44m took her to second on the club all time list and produced the only win for the U13 girls. Sacha has another thirteen months to attack Helen McDonnell’s club record of 1.53m dating to 2001. For the U15 Boys, Jimi Tele was close to his week-old PB in winning the long jump, and Terry Hughes added a win in the B string 100m See HMAC Results (PDF) file Provisional Final League Table (top 6 positions = Top 6 Final on 9 Sept) 1 BEDFORD 35 3592 CHAMPIONS 2 HAVERING M 34 3648.5 RUNNERS-UP 3 BASILDON 31 3138 4 CHELMSFORD 31 3061.5 5 ST ALBANS 31 2962 6 STEVENAGE & NH 30 2938.5
