The Eastern Young Athletes team won by almost 200 points in the final fixture at Ilford to claim the league title ahead of Bedford. Their 762 point winning tally was enough to take the team up from third place to top, 19 points ahead of Bedford, with Peterborough third, all three finishing on 34 match points. The U17 girls produced an all-star winning show with 11 victories. none of them in field events. Sam Hill & Katherine Knight doubled up for victory in both shot & discus while jumps wins went to Lydia St Ange who won triple jump A and long jump B, and her partners Esther Tele (long) and Kelly Jarrold (triple) both tasted success. St Ange & Tele added a 100m double and Patsy McWeeney's javelin win completed the winning show. With six athletes in Essex action the U17 Men were well below their usual strength but held on for victory and still notched up seven wins. A string wins went to Jack Edgar-Hill (hurdles), Callum Sutton (800m) and Laurence Goodacre (shot) and ~B event wins came virtue of Jordan Brown (100m), Liam Bush (800m), Chris Lowe (16500m) and Adam McCarthy (javelin). The U15 Girls were edged into third but produced eight wins - six in the throws where Deborah Knight (javelin & shot) and Sophie Baggs (shot & discus) each nabbed a pair and Laura Drew (javelin) and Shelley Wilson (discus) also won. Rebecca O'Neill and Rachel Sadler were both successful in the 800m A & B for the only track victories. The U13 girls produced one of their best results of the season with ten victories. Lydia Hallam and Jess Fazakerley won 800m A & B and other doubles came from Sacha Martin & Tomi Akingbade (high jump) and Georgie Taylor & Hannah Bloy (discus). Martin also won the long jump, Akingbade the B 100m and Bloy the A shot. Avril Loynes (1500m) completed the winning tally. The U13 boys produced some good results in placing second. Finbar Smyth and Nick Shade won both 1500m A & B, and Smyth also won the B discus. Alex Law's hurdles debut brought B victory and Lee Jarrold added a high jump win. The U15 Boys were runaway winners in their age group hanks to eight individual wins and a relay success. The field events again led the way with wins from Andrew Kerr Hammer and B shot, Luke Overton with a B discus & javelin double, and Danny Wilson (Discus) & Matthew Byrne (Javelin). Jake Nelson in the hurdles and the busy Adam Samuel in the B 200m were the track winners.
The top trio will be joined by Luton, Chelmsford and Stevenage in the Top Six Trophy at Bedford on 14 September where the hosts – the only team to beat Havering in the league this campaign - will once again be hard to beat. |
