The Eastern Young Athletes team had to settle for third place in the Top Six Trophy Final at Stevenage on Sunday. Chelmsford retained the trophy while hosts Stevenage came through to take second.  A strong showing in the field was not backed up by the track events while yielded just two A string wins plus a relay compared to seven field A string victories.

The Under 17 Men were runners up behind St Albans.  Josh Olawore provided the boys' only A string track win in the U17 hurdles and added wins in long & triple jumps with a personal best in the latter. Josh’s B string partners all performed strongly. Pedro Malungo smashed his PB to win the B triple jump, Adam Wileman was second in the B hurdles, and Lewis Walker-Dobson’s long jump PB placed him second too. Danny Wilson provided two wins coming up trumps in the discus and storming to victory in the B 400m, equalling his best. Ryan O’Mahoney won the B 800m, after Massi Dendani was runner up in the A race, while Hoseah Gikungu was second in the 1500m. Andrew Kerr (A Hammer) and Tyler Bennett (B discus) were also runner up..

The Under 13 Girls were runners up behind Stevenage.  Chenice Constable long jumped to victory and was second in the high jump. Sarah Wilson led all the way to win the 800m B, and Kiera Law’s discus PB earned her B string honours. Second places went to the 100m pairing of Emma Whitby & Michelle Hughes, and Michelle was also second in the discus. Heidi Surman-Wells edged second in the hurdles and joined Emma, Chenice &Michelle in the winning relay quartet who clocked their fastest time of the season.

Lydia Hallam front ran her way to 1500m victory to provide one of the track highlights for the Under 15 Girls who finished third. Tayla Humm produced a fine performance to win the B 300m with the third fastest time ever by a club U15, and she was also just out-dipped for B 100m victory. Georgie Taylor and Rachel Forder provide their customary discus winning double while Mercy Gutteridge added another A string wins in the pole vault. Rachel was second in the B javelin. Bethany Chamber, Georgie Taylor, Tomi Akingbade and Tayla Humm combined for their fastest relay clocking this year in second.

There were four victories by the Under 15 boys. Oliver Garwandoe was short of his best but was good enough to win the pole vault. Alex Law set a new PB in winning the hurdles B string and also bettered his long jump best in second while Reece Mathurin got the judges verdict to win the B 200m. Ben Thompson and Dan Bristow scored well in the throws with their best results being a pair of second places in the discus and Dan was also second in the B shot.  Nathan Jackson and Karl Tucker joined Alex and Reece for second in the relay.

The Under 13 boys had no victories on the day but achieved seven personal bests, finishing fourth overall. Best placings came from Alex Hewitt’s 100m runners up placing, which was matched by Sean Wilson in the High Jump and Zachary Jackson  in the discus B.

The Under17 women also struggled to make an impact. Patsy McWeeney’s B javelin win was the only full-pointer but there were seven second places.  Nicola Peachey was close to her best in finishing second in the long jump, and other runners up spots went  to Annie Adewole (shot), Holly Thomas (javelin) and Laura Drew (hammer). Three more B string second places came from Rylie Trott (hurdles), Erin Baggs (shot) and Bethaney Hall (1500m)
