A convincing victory over league leaders Chelmsford at Braintree on Sunday restored the Eastern Young Athletes Team’s narrow lead at the top of the table with one match to go.

The Under 15 Boys were 25 points clear of the opposition but surprisingly recorded victories in just one A string & two B strings but collected no fewer than 14 second places. Nick Shade was the sole A winner in the 1500m. The B string victories came in the throws as Dan Bristow, shot & Nick Duffey, discus scored to points.

The improving Under 13 Girls scored six wins, four A and two B. Heidi Surman-Wells improves with every race and her 12.2s wining time took her to equal fourth on the club all time rankings. Heidi also improved her 800m best in second place.  Amy Baggs had a throws double with wins in shot and discus and Keira Law added a B discus win. Jumps success came from Chenice Constable’s long jump victory and Tolu Akingbade’s B high jump win.

The powerful Under 17 Women come out on top in a head to head battle with Chelmsford. Sophie Baggs was best in the A discus and Debbie Knight added javelin honours, with Patsy McWeeney taking the B. Other B string victories came from Sophie Reynolds (100m), Jess Seekings (300m) and Rylie Trott (hurdles) on the track and Becky Stanley added B string triple jump top points

The Under 15 Girls finished second to Chelmsford.  Bethany Chambers again starred with wins in both 100m & 300m A string events and Lydia Hallam again delivered the goods with an 800m win. Georgie Taylor returned from her English Schools’ debut with discus victory and Rachel Forder added B honours as well as winning the A string shot.

The Under 17 Men were outgunned by Dacorum & Tring but produced some fine results. Hoseah Gikungu stepped down to the 800m and won with a new PB, as Josh Conners made it a double with B victory. Ryan O’Mahoney added 1500 B string maximum points in a PB time. Jake Nelson was in fine form with wins in both long jump and hurdles and another winning double came by virtue of Andrew Kerr in the pole vault and hammer. Lewis Walker-Dobson won the triple jump B.

The U13 Boys were narrowly beaten by Chelmsford. Alex Hewitt was the fastest sprinter on show with wins in both 100m & 200m, with Ryan Green making it a 200m double with B string victory. The 4x100m relay squad also won.  Sean Wilson & Thomas Pitkin won both A & B 800m, John Nelson the B discus and Robert Woodgate's PB secured B long jump success.

Victory in the final round on 15 August at Colchester will ensure that the HMAC side retain the league title as the club just head the table on event points, ahead of Stevenage and Chelmsford who share the same match points total. Seventh placed Bedford will be the main opposition.
