A holiday-affected Havering Mayesbrook Eastern Young Athletes League suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Chelmsford in the final league fixture at Braintree on Sunday but did enough to earn place in the end of season Top 6 Trophy Final. Only the Under 15 Girls came out on top in their section, thanks to nine wins, five in A strings and four in B string events. Georgie Taylor and Rachel Forder contributed five wins with Rachel winning A javelin and B shot and discus, with Georgie winning the A events in these. Mercy Gutteridge maintained her good record in the pole vault once again equalling her club best and Chenice Constable won the long jump with ease. Michelle Hughes won the B hurdles abut her excellent high jump PB, good enough to enter the club all-time top 10, only placed her second in a good quality competition. The Under 17 Men lost out by a single point and the five athletes did all they could to stave off defeat as each of them notched up at least one victory. Dale Marks-Swain won the 400m and B 100m, Karl Tucker the hurdles & B triple jump, Lewis Walker-Dobson the B Long jump and improved his high jump PB, Nick Duffey won the discus and 400m B and Oliver Garwandoe's pole vault PB brought him victory. Both Under 13 teams were second. The Under 13 Boys had a host of second places with Joseph Newson, Matthew Owers and James Traylen each grabbing a pair, with Morgan Seaman and Michael Hollette with one apiece but it was John Nelson who starred winning the discus and placing second in the shot. Modupe Shokunbi won both 200m & high jump for the Under 13 girls but suffered a rare defeat in the 100m. Kiera Law provided the other A string success, winning the discus, and B string wins came from Gemma Archer-Hayley (800m) Charlotte Welch (high jump) and Megan Ruffell (discus). A weak Under 15 Boys squad squad finished third. Tobi Adeyemi & Alex Hewitt won both strings of the 100 & 200m and Lewis Middleton won the pole vault. Isabella Woods was the only Under 17 Women on show but Ella Rudgley bravely stepped up from the U15 ranks to join her. Both were second in the 800m earning 23 points overall. |
