Third place in the final Eastern YAL fixture at Sandy on Sunday ensured the squad placed fourth in the league table and booked their place in the annual end of season top six Trophy Final.

The powerful Under 13 Boys once again won their section with Jairzinho Morris again winning three events, adding the club long jump record to the 200m mark he bettered last week, with just the 100m club record mark which he shares still to make his own.  There was a winning 1500m double for Oliver Woods & Harry Jones while Ben Hamberger and Aaron Freshwater won both high jump strings, with Ben runner up in the hurdles & javelin as well. Joseph Hogan-O’Neill won the B long jump & discus and was second in the shot, James Adams added B shot victory and Zak Mackay was second in the B hurdles.

The Under 13 Girls were edged out by match winners Stevenage.  Jade Kavanagh impressed with 100m victory on her league debut and Millie Hodges’ discus PB brought her victory to add to her hurdles runners up spot, with Grace Newson adding a B hurdles win.  There were three other B string wins as Charlotte Wright took the 800m, Adelaide Thatcher-Gray the B shot, as well as second in the javelin, while Jessie Gower won the B long jump on her scoring debut.  Robyn Moody's shot PB placed her second in the A & B string second places went to Ella King (100m), Chloe Morter (1500m), Rosie Brown (200m & discus) & Amy Nash (javelin).

The Under 15 Girls lost out to Nene Valley by five points.  Mayi Hughes won the long jump in a new PB and also won the hurdles, with Isabella Purdie winning the hurdles B string. Natasha Dowie & Elizabeth Adams doubled up for high jump A & B victory and Sophie Rand (1500m) and Philippa Gill (shot) also won their B string events, with Philippa adding A string second place points in hammer & javelin.  Katie Mitchell & Jessica Mitchell were both second in the 800m as was Kerys Middleton in the B discus.

The Under 17 Women were short-handed but did enough for second place. Modupe Shokunbi and Tolu Akingbade made it a winning double in both 100m & 200m while Heidi Surman Wells & Sarah Wilson won both 800m strings and Sarah won the B 300m for good measure and Heidi was runner up in the discus B. Lucy Bailey won the hurdles & was second in the B high jump, and more second place points were gained by Georgia Woodburn’s javelin PB, Amy Baggs in the B shot and Katie Dawson’s triple jump PB.

The Under 17 Men recorded six wins but lost out through lack of numbers.  Tom Pitkin & Michael Duncan won both 400m strings, and Michael also won the 200m B race.  Finn Hutton’s PB ensured 800m B victory with Matt Braybrook runner up in the A string. On the field Fraser Boston won the triple jump and Sonny Nash the javelin, backed up by his second place in the hammer.

The Under 15 Men once again found the going tough. Oliver Morter won the 800m win a new PB and the 1500m pairing of Thomas Sheldrick & Jack Rice won both A & B strings but Jack Stephenson, Sam Atkins, Joe Wright & debutant Bailey Ramsey worked hard for little reward.

The team will face league champions Stevenage, runners up Bedford, and Norwich, Nene Valley and hosts Basildon, in the Top 6 Final on Sunday 7th September.
