A convincing victory in the third round of the Eastern Young Athletes League at Ware on Sunday has put the young athletes back on track for a place in the Top 6 final, as five of the six age group teams came out on top.

The Under 15 girls posted a dominant display with 11 victories. Kate O’Neill & Molly Sweetman took full points in both 800m strings, as did Jessica Mitchell & Becca Brown in the 1500m. Field doubles also came from Isobel McDonach & Philippa Gill (shot) and the discus duo of Mille Hodges & Rosie Brown – Rosie also added 300m B string victory.  Rochelle Constable won the B javelin and Grace Newson the B hurdles with second place points going to Caitlin Saggers (200m B), Charlotte Fransham (long jump B), and Mayi Hughes (A hurdles). Mayi, Isobel, Grace & Caitlin were relay runners up.

The Under 13 girls recorded three A & five B string wins. Alice Brown & Hannah Panchal won both 800m races, and Poppy Ellis won the 1500m B, with Sydney Foley second in the A. Robyn Moody took the honours in both shot & discus A events, and Grace Griffiths won both long jump & shot B competitions. Eliza Bonning won the B hurdles and runners up spots went to the javelin pairing of Adelaide Thatcher-Gray & Ruby Mace, and B string high jumper Ayesha Anderson.

There were seven wins for the Under 15 boys as JJ Morris won both sprints, with his B string partners Tobi Idowu (100m) & AJ Jordan (200m) both placing second – and AJ also claimed a B string victory in the shot. Joseph Hogan-O’Neill won both hammer & shot and Sam Mezoori took the B long jump. PBs from Jack Rice & debutant Success Ariyibi took them both into the club all time 300m top 10, and Jack was runner up in the 800m A race with John Fennessey also second in the B, while Sam Atkins was 2nd in the B hurdles. The relay quartet added a second place to round off a successful day  

After taking the county schools 200m title the day before, speed merchant Kareem Jerome went even faster in winning both Under 13 boys sprints in new PBs with his 100m time equalling the club record. Alfie Kelly won the high jump & B shot, and was second in the hurdles, and Henry Lay won the high jump B. Pater Brinton-Quinn & Hal Hutton won both javelin strings, with Hal also winning the B discus as Peter was second in the A.  B string sprinters Ashton Thatcher-Gray (100m) & Victor Hughes (200m) both took second places and they were joined by Alfie & Kareem in the winning relay quartet.

The Under 17 Men won their section with a strong all-round display despite just four individual wins:. Kieran Riddell & Shandell Taylor’s javelin double was backed up by Lewis Debenham’s B 400m win & Thomas Stoyles’ B high jump success. Kieran was also second in both A shot & B hurdles and Paul Okesola was second in discus A & shot B whiel Alex McCree (400m), Elliott Addison (B discus) & Kieran O’Hara (1500m B & long jump) were also second.

The Under 17 Women were very short-handed, even with support from several Under 15s. Modupe Shokunbi won both sprints and Georgia Woodburn the javelin and B string wins came from long jumper Samantha Saunders and Under 15s Yinka Shokunbi (discus) and Any Nash (javelin). Annie Maguire was second in the triple jump as were Holly Nash (200m B) and U15s Sophie Rand (1500m A) and Sophie Taylor (shot).

The club face a tough fixture in the next round at Bury St Edmunds in three weeks, taking on league leaders Bedford & fifth placed Ipswich.
