The Eastern Young Athletes squad racked up their biggest points tally for many years as they raced to a 100 point victory over hosts Thurrock at Blackshots on Sunday, winning five of the six age groups.

The Under 13 Girls dominated their age group, winning 10 and runners up in 8 of the 21 events. Stephanie Okoro won the A 800m & 200m B with other track wins for Uche Okpalauko (100m B), Chloe Rand (800m B), and Paige Robinson & Paris King (A & B hurdles).  Hannah Yexley and Chloe Rand (again) won a discus double and Olivia Sorrell took full points in the B high jump before Stephanie, Uche, Paris ad Paige rounded of the successful day with relay victory.

There were 13 victories for the Under 15 Girls. Ruby Mace had a trio of B string wins in the 300m, hurdles and javelin, the 800m partnership of Alice Brown & Hannah Panchal took full points as did shot duo Lola Kuponiyi and Grace Griffiths, discus pair Robyn Moody and Alice Brown (again). More wins came from Poppy Ellis (300m), Jessie Collier (vault) and javelin thrower Adelaide Thatcher-Gray.

The Under 17 Women ran out clear winners with 11 wins. Philippa Gill starred with a hat trick of throws wins in the javelin, hammer & B shot and Alex Adeniji won the discus. Jade Kavanagh won the 200m & B long jump and the hurdles pairing of Mayi Hughes & Grace Newson both triumphed and more B string wins came from Caitlin Saggers (300m), Molly Sweetman (800m) and high jumper Keturah Christie.

Jacob Blanc’s trio of wins in the hurdles, 200m & high jump headlined the Under 13 Boys’ victory. Patrick McLean-Tattan won both the B 100m  &high jumps, and more track wins came from Shane Hart & Callum Basinger (1500m) and Dominic Alexandru (B hurdles).   Oliver Yexley and debutant Zach Chiswell completed the victory roll in the javelin.  

The Under 15 Boys recorded 10 individual wins and a relay victory.  Brad James had a win double in the hurdles and javelin and Somto Okpalauko added two more wins in the B 100m & long jump. Kimathi Christie (300m) and Ben Naish (1500m B) both took full points on the track and field victories were claimed by John Ryan (hammer), Ejiro Akpotor (shot B) and Peter Brinton =-Quinn (javelin B). Daragh Thomas, Somto Okpalauko, John Ryan, Kester Tomy came home first in the relay to confirm age group victory. 

The Under 17 Men were edged out by the hosts. Joe Hogan O’Neill cleaned up in the heavy throws with shot, hammer & discus wins and high jumpers Nathanael Adeniran and Euan McDonnell also took full points. Tobi Idowu (100m), Reece Harriott (800m) and Charlie Savill (javelin) all added B string wins.

Round 2 sees the squad travel to Luton on 4th June where Shaftesbury Barnet are likely to offer the strongest challenge.
