After giving second best to EYAL league champions Milton Keynes last season the joint Havering Mayesbrook young athletes team turned the tables to record an excellent win at very windy Milton Keynes on Sunday.

The new team managers Mike Munson, Kathy Reece and Sue Deane pulled out all the stops with the available athletes to cover almost all events, and with many girls tired after exertions the previous day in the Southern Women’s League at the same venue, produced an excellent team result to romp home winners by over 50 points.

In the youngest age group, with many new recruits appearing in club colours for the first time several new stars emerged. In the sprints Lilla Jacks and Roxy Wicks made it a winning 100m double, both in 14.1 secs PBs, while in the 200m Lilla was 2nd in 29.3 PB, with Roxy again 1st in a PB of 30.4s. There were two gutsy middle distance runs, Ingrid Deane 1st in the 800 in 2m 35 PB & Michaela Roberts also 1st in 1500 5m 35.7. In the hurdles Nicola Hill and Catrina McAuliffe both claimed PBs, and there was a winning relay performance from Lilla, Roxy, Ingrid & Nicola Hill.

In the youngest age group for the boys Bradley Reece notched a win double with PBs Discus 21.82 m (after some advice from Paul Head), and Shot 6.72m.

The strong U15 girls squad, many of whom had been in action the day before , were again in winning form. The powerful Louise Yard had a double win in the discus and shot and was & 2nd B Javelin. Lucy Sargent won both LJ and 100m, while Lisa Schofield won both B events and for good measure won the B hurdles. Helen McDonnell won both HJ and B 200m before joining Lucy, Lisa, and Lauren McVicar for a relay win.

In the u15 boys Anthony Williams improved yet again in the hurdles winning in 14.3 secs, while Ashley Reece, did some speed work 3rd 400m in PB 60.2s & 1st 800 2. 14.4, while Ross Clarke won 1500 in 4. 45.4 & also 3rd 200m in 28.9 s PB. There was a shot win for Jack Damon with 8.92, while elsewhere in the field events Nat Senior gained LJ  & Javelin PBs.

Twins Bradley & Scott Tungatt won the u13 b string 800 & 1500 respectively in 2 30.4 & 4 58.9. Grant Twist also scored a pair of second places.

In the oldest u17 age group there were two welcome returns to action. All rounder Scott Keating came back to win the HJ in 1.75m & 2nd in LJ & TJ in 5.84 & 12.03 respectively, while also making a return Terry O'Leary after a year out managed 3 pbs and 2 victories, SP 1st 11.97m, JT - 44.23m & 2nd Discus 34.78m. Joe Golding showed excellent tactical awareness winning both the 400 & 800 in 53.8 & 2 03.9.

For the u17 girls – missing seven athletes in action for the u20 team with others on holiday - Danielle Ross scored excellent points with a winning double in the b Hurdles & Discus and 2nd in the A string shot 7.90. Chloe Van Wulven won an excellent HJ in 1.65m, equalling her PB & scorched to another PB of 12.0 secs in winning the non scoring Hurdles.
