Eastern Young Athletes League, Division 1, Chelmsford,
Sunday 17 August 2003
| 1st Chelmsford | 369.5 pts |
| 2nd Havering Mayesbrook | 314.5pts |
| 3rd Huntingdon | 203 pts |
| 4th St Albans | 112 pts |
As expected Havering Mayesbrook had an uphill battle against Chelmsford who started the day only two places behind in the League and needing to win to make sure of a place in the Cup Final. Nevertheless despite missing many athletes to the AAA's champs, Junior League clashes and many holiday absentees, the remaining athletes put up a spirited performance led by the never say die attitude of the U17 Women!
U13 Girls
An exciting sprint double by Lilla Jacks & newcomer Frankie Calder. Lilla winning the 100m & 200m A strings in 14.4s & 29.3s respectively, with Frankie winning the B strings in 13.8s & 28.3s before helping the sprint relay team to victory. Both the 200m being PBs. Ingrid Dean had a winning double in the 1500m & B string Discus in a new PB.
U15 Girls
Amy Adams won the 1500m & B string Discus as well as gaining a valiant 2nd place in the 800m.
U17 Women
Despite being few in number and including 2 newcomers, they managed to cover every event. Caroline Smith, Robyn Delivett & Carmel Munson all managed 2 victories and a 2nd place which included a PB equalling 300m for Robyn and a discus PB for Carmel.
U13 Boys
Star performer of the day was Matt Bloy's 1500m victory in 4m42.2s with Grant Twist also winning the B string in 4m 53.4s. Both of these where massive PBs and excellent times which bodes well for the forthcoming Cross Country Season. Victories were hard to come by in this age group, although the boys covered the events well.
U15 Boys
Although Havering managed two seconds in the 80m Hurdles, with Anthony Williams smashing his PB, newcomer Chris Handley running as a non scorer beat everyone to win in 12.8s. Elsewhere Ashley Reece won the 800m, with Ross Clarke taking the B string. Ashley later recorded a PB of 1.70m to finish 2nd in a closely fought High Jump. Ross doubled up to win the 1500m.
U17 Men
Only in the Long Jump did Havering manage a double 1st with Scott Keating and Andrew Luck. Scott later won the High Jump with a leap of 1.80m (being very close to clearing 1.90m), before rushing over to put the shot and then help the relay team win.
Without knowing all the other results, we assume that we finished 2nd overall and therefore will be contesting the Cup Final at Bedford on 14th September.
