English Schools Championships - Birmingham

Friday 9th & Saturday 10th July 2010

Jimi Tele further improved his cub U17 triple jump record with a massive 14.86m leap as he won Inter Boys' gold at the English Schools' Championships at Birmingham on Saturday.  He dominated the competition to win by 46cms (18 ins) and now competes for England in the Schools International at Glasgow on Saturday.

Georgie Taylor was edged out of a medal in the junior girls' discus finishing fourth with 31.45m. Georgie was in silver medal position at the end of the third round but was overhauled to finish just outside a podium place. She will have another crack next year as she has another year in the age group.

Flic Clarke improved her 400m hurdles PB to 63.66s in finishing sixth in the senior girls' event despite competing with a hamstring strain. There were also sixth places for Kike Oniwinde who threw the senior Javelin 43.48m and Emmanuel Quarshie whose best shot put of 14.01m in the senior event came in the last round.

Holly Thomas failed to finish in the intermediate girls 80m hurdles final after a recurrence of her hamstring injury thwarted her medal bid. Isaac Ogunlade moved closer to the club U20 110m hurdles record with his 14.76s heat clocking in the senior boys' competition, and Josh Olawore went out in the inter boys' 100m hurdles semi finals after a runners-up heat finish. Brad Burr was a below-par 11th in the senior javelin.
