Essex & Eastern Indoor Championships, Lee Valley, 7th & 8th February 2015

It was a golden weekend at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre as club athletes showed good form to earn medals and show that they are wintering well at the Essex & Eastern Championships.

Modupe Shokunbi defended her Under 17 60m title on Saturday & returned on Sunday to add 200m gold, improving with every race.  Michelle Hughes also added 200m gold with an indoor PBs in heat & final in the Under 20 women’s event, after earlier winning bronze in the 60m.  Lewis Bailey made it a hat-trick of 200m victories for club athletes when he ran faster than before indoors to win the Under 20 men’s event.

There were also four gold medals in the field events.  Mercy Gutteridge took U20 pole vault gold on Saturday with her 3.20m clearance and Bethan Siddons defended her senior high jump title with a third time clearance at an indoor PB of 1.70m, her best since June 2013.  Alex Law made a successful return from injury to win U20 long jump gold and multi-eventer Mayi Hughes come out on top in the Under 15 shot, and also added bronze medals in both long jump & hurdles.

Tom Pitkin provided silver service for runner up in the U20 400m final, and silver medals also went to Max Law in the U15 shot & Shannon Dooley in the U17 hurdles. The medal haul continued with bronze medals from Lucy Bailey (U20W) & Kieran Riddell (U17M), both in 60m hurdles, Tee Quinlivan (senior vault), Alice Martin (U20 shot), Katie Dawson (U17 high jump) while Dominic Jarvis (U13 800m) also added bronze.
