Essex Cross Country Championships, Hadleigh Country Park 8 January 2011
|
The Senior Ladies team dominated the Essex Championship at a very
muddy Hadleigh Country on Saturday as they won team gold with Harriet Scott
taking the individual honours with Sara Luck runner up. It completed a hat-trick of victories for the senior ladies squad, as Sara, Harriet and Robyn had combined with Lauren Deadman for gold in 2009, while Faye Fullerton, Alexa Joel, Lauren Deadman and Debbie Appleton were victorious in 2008 - the 2010 edition fell foul of the snowy weather. Harriet's victory by two minutes over second placed Sara was their first country cross country gongs as seniors in the event and great runs from Robyn Matson 4th and Vicky Smith in 14th, both finishing higher than before, completed the rout as the ladies ran out winners by a massive 49 points. Fine performances by Debbie Appleton (17th) and Jade Edwards (23rd) would have been good enough to make the winning foursome, while Jane Hallam also ran in 58th Lydia Hallam's excellent individual bronze medal led the Under 15 Girls to silver in the team stakes. Lindsay McLachlan in13th, Rebecca Christmas 17th and Francesca Smith in 26th brought the team home three points ahead of Basildon for team silver. Rebecca Ward in 35th and Avril Loynes 38th also saw action. Another fine individual bronze went to the
improving Sarah Wilson in the Under 13 girls'
race, with Heidi Surman-Wells also making the top ten, despite an
enforced stop due to feeling unwell on the testing course. Amy Baggs was 24th
and Jessica Ward 27th, with Lauren Earle 33rd
The Under 15 boys also tasted podium success as Andrew Holland's fifth place - by far his best-ever run - set up a team silver finish - to record the squad's best result of the winter. James Kidd ran well to take eighth and Nick Duffey in 21st and Nick Shade 24th earned the squad a comfortable runners up spot.
Jamie Buckley Stanton was the club's only participant in the under 20 Men's race and he did not let the club down with a very good run to take the county bronze medal.
Illness and injury robbed the league-leading senior men’s team of a possible medal place. Rob Warner’s strong run led the much-depleted squad home in a good 12th place and Grant Twist was next home in 15th after recovering well on the last lap. The only other Havering Mayesbrook runner to brave the hilly 8 1/4 mile course was Chris Coates who returned a creditable 80th place. |
