Essex County Cross Country Relay Championships,
Hockley Woods Saturday 26th September 2015
There was a gold medal for the Under 15 girls and bronze for the under 17 women as club athletes turned out in force at the Essex Cross Country Relay Championships s at Hockley Woods on Saturday.
After their strong start at the Regional relays last week the
Under 15 girls trio showed
impressive form at county level. Sophie Rand's strong opener of 12:57
brought her home third, and her run was 7th fastest on the day. Jess
Mitchell's 12:41 leg was 4th fastest overall and handed over a winning
lead to Kate O'Neill whose scorching anchor of 11:48 was the fastest of
all Under 15 legs and ensured county gold. Three other club u15 teams
took part, finishing 8th (B Team - Kate Walker 16:32, Chloe Morter
15:38, Grace Dukelow 13:54), 12th (C Team: Ella King 16:00, Charlotte
Wright 16:08, Elizabeth McArthur 24:46)and 13th (D Team Emily Crane
16:24, Ana Osborne 21:50, Millie Redgrave 19:53).
Alex Ford's 12:01 first leg for the Under 13
boys proved fourth fastest overall and Dominic Jarvis (14:04)
and Jake long (14:07) finished 9th, with the b trio of Henry lay
(12:53), Luke Chester (14:38) and Ben Naish (12:47) one place back.
The Senior men had fourteen runners for the relays with three full teams for the first time for many years. The A team of Mathew Braybrook 17.07, Steve Rand 16.02, Paul Grange 15.53 and Rob Warner, who ran the squad's fastest leg of 15.15, finished in 6th place.
The B team comprising of Abdul Mohammed 17.26, Matt Bland 17.00, Jamie Buckley Stanton, who showed he is on the comeback trail with a very good 15.53, and Martin Chester 17.11 bringing the team home in 10th place, second B team. The C team had vet Paul Berrett on first leg 17.43, Sam Jackson 17.12, Jason Crispin 17.26, and Luke Jackson 17.26 brought the C team home in 16th place, first C team. The squad was completed by Tony Collins 20.20 and Russ Middleton 18.38 unfortunately there were not enough Havering runners to complete a fourth team.
Many of the younger runners were in their first outings in club colours and will know what to expect when the Essex Cross Country League action gets under way next week on 10th October.
