Essex U17, U20 & Veterans Cross Country Champs, Chingford, Sat 3 December 2005

Katie Richardson was an impressive winner of the Essex U17 Women's cross country title at Chingford on Saturday and made up for the generally disappointing turn outs in most age groups.

Katie, the English Schools Inter Girls' 1500m champion, won her u17 age category by over two minutes and she also beat U20 champion Danielle Sale in the combined U17 & U20 race. Jade Edwards was a useful 5th but with Hayley Thomas unwell and no other runners there was an incomplete team.

It was a similar story in the u20 category where Hayley Stibbs ran well for fourth, with Robyn Matson & Vicky Smith backing up well in 7th & 8th, but no fourth runner to secure the team stakes.

Robert Jones was the only U17 Man to compete, after Ross Clarke's withdrawal,  finishing a commendable 15th.

Just two veteran women competed and Lesley Felton led the way in 14th with a fine sprint finish while Linda Smith was 38th.

There were better turn outs in the men's events. Graham Foster showed good form to lead the club quartet home in 57th place. Neil Bearwish ran well in the very slippery conditions to finish 61st , and Gary Howard came home in 71st with Kevin White completing the team in 76th

Martin McVeigh continued his fine League form leading the M50 contingent home in 50th. He closely followed by Len Parrot - now in the M70 category - in 51st and Dave Holland completed the trio in 75th
