Essex Young Athletes Road Relays – Colchester, 30th March 2003

There were medals for three Havering Mayesbrook club teams in the Essex Young Athletes Road Relays at Colchester on Sunday, one of the final events of the winter season.

There was bronze for the u13 girls trio of Michaela Roberts (11m 54 secs), Amie Adams with a fast 11m 18 secs and Clare Robinson (11m 58 secs), while the B team of Francesca Clark (12:14), Ingrid Deane (11:52) and Hayley Thomas (11:39) were not far behind in fifth. A C team (Rachel Newman, Charlotte Humphreys, and Alex Watkins) also did well to place seventh.

There silver for the u15 girls squad, led by Robyn Matson, in the absence of Megan Foley and Katie Richardson on international duty. Lauren Clark’s opener of 11:39 put the team fifth, before Helen Roche’s leg of 11:45 secs pulled up two places. A storming last leg of 10:56 by Robyn Matson clawed back another place to win silver.  The B team saw a superb return to action from Charlotte Watkins after a quiet winter with an even faster final leg of 10:47, hauling up three places to claim fifth, after Lauren McVicar (12:18) and Georgina Clark (11:51) had handed over in eighth.

There was another bronze for the u17 girls team of Ria Lyons (11:07), Laura Moore (12:44) and Jenny Szantai (13:01).

The boys' teams were hit by injury and other commitments. The u13 boys' trio of Grant Twist (10:40), Matt Pearse (14:03) and Joe Evans (13:35) were ninth while Ashley Reece (9:47) and Christian Newton (11:46) were placed fifth after two legs but lacked another runner to complete the team. No u17 boys team competed.
