Essex Young Athletes Road Relays – Colchester, 30th March 2003
There
were medals for three Havering Mayesbrook club teams in the Essex Young Athletes
Road Relays at Colchester on Sunday, one of the final events of the winter
season.
There
was bronze for the u13 girls trio of Michaela Roberts (11m 54 secs), Amie Adams
with a fast 11m 18 secs and Clare Robinson (11m 58 secs), while the B team of
Francesca Clark (12:14), Ingrid Deane (11:52) and Hayley Thomas (11:39) were not
far behind in fifth. A C team (Rachel Newman, Charlotte Humphreys, and Alex
Watkins) also did well to place seventh.
There
silver for the u15 girls squad, led by Robyn Matson, in the absence of Megan
Foley and Katie Richardson on international duty. Lauren Clark’s opener of
11:39 put the team fifth, before Helen Roche’s leg of 11:45 secs pulled up two
places. A storming last leg of 10:56 by Robyn Matson clawed back another place
to win silver. The B team saw a superb return to action from Charlotte
Watkins after a quiet winter with an even faster final leg of 10:47, hauling up
three places to claim fifth, after Lauren McVicar (12:18) and Georgina Clark
(11:51) had handed over in eighth.
There
was another bronze for the u17 girls team of Ria Lyons (11:07), Laura Moore
(12:44) and Jenny Szantai (13:01).
The
boys' teams were hit by injury and other commitments. The u13 boys' trio of
Grant Twist (10:40), Matt Pearse (14:03) and Joe Evans (13:35) were ninth while
Ashley Reece (9:47) and Christian Newton (11:46) were placed fifth after two
legs but lacked another runner to complete the team. No u17 boys team competed.
