Essex Young Athletes Road Relays, Chelmer Valley, Saturday 20 March 2005

One gold, two silver and a bronze medal were the club's haul from the Essex Young Athletes' Road relays held at Chelmer Valley on Sunday, following a late venue change.

Two medals came in the under 15 boys event where the team's dominance of county events continued . Matt Bloy's opening 9:43 lap proved to be the fastest in the event and his A team colleagues Steve McLachlan (10:26) and Bradley Tungatt (9:55) ensured gold. For the B team Chris McLachlan's 10:06 opener brought him home 5th while Scott Tungatt for the C team made an excellent return to club racing in 6th place with 10:13. Daniel Winters' 10:28 leg sustained the B team's 5th place were capped by Grant Twist's 10:07 anchor that made up two places to claim bronze.

The u15 girls repeated their achievement as Ingrid Deane's 11:13 first leg - against mixed age group with the under 17s - set up the medal charge and Clare Robinson (11:53) and Hayley Thomas (11:43) ensured silver. The club also finished two other trios in this age group. For the B team Georgie Sales (12:09) made a good start and handed over to Rachel Newman, whose 12:52 leg was followed by Jade Edward's 12:43 anchor.  They were led most of the way by the C team as Charlotte Humpheryes' superb first leg of 11:58 and a 12:29 second leg by the lightly raced Amie Adams, was completed by the improving Rachel Kerr's final leg.

The hard working under 13 girls at last got their reward as they won silver through Georgia Davies (12:16), Becky Luck (12:38) and Sidnie Sales 11:59 anchor bagged silver. There was disappointment for the B team as after Eleanor Bounds' good start  Michelle Lovell unfortunately got lost on the course which ,meant anchor runner Alex Edwards was unable to run.
