Havering Mayesbrook U17 athletics team won a hatful of medals on the first day of the Essex Championships at Southend today.   

In the girls U15's Megan Foley was outstanding in winning the Gold medal in the 1500metres along way ahead of the rest of the field.  There were five other girls who made this final.  Katie Richardson (5th), Charlotte Watkins, Vicky Smith, Robyn Matson and Lauren Clark.  

In the 200m final Cherelle Westlake won silver with Christina Kalejaiye a close 4th.  Louise Yard won gold in the discus with Lauren Clark winning Bronze.  Lisa Schofield was a good fourth in the Pentathlon with three new P.B's (and equalling one).

In the girls U17, Lynsey Clark threw a new P.B in the discus of over 34 metres to win the silver medal with Melanie Harrison picking up the Bronze.  In the 1500m Sara Luck was a good silver medalist with Natalie Adams fourth and Caroline Smith also making the final.  Nicola Schofield made the 200m final finishing a creditable eighth.
      

In the boys there was only three medal winners.  Matthew Watkins sat just behind the leader and followed him all the way and kicked clear at the last 200m to win the 1500m Gold medal.  His teammate Paul Adair was a very good Bronze. Long Jumper Nat Senior also claimed gold. Christian Newton gained u15 discus bronze.
