Essex Championships Day One – Colchester Sunday 2nd May 2005
There was a twelve medal haul - six of them gold - as HMAC youngsters contested the first day of the Essex County Championships at Colchester today.
Junior International Lucy Sargent defended her under 17 title in style cruising to victory into a stiff breeze in the 200m. Another u17 to defend her title was Lauren Clark who took discus gold again while Katie Richardson improved on bronze last year to easily take the 1500m honours.
Nicola
Hill set three new PBs on her way to a new career best pentathlon winning points
tally of 2563. She started the day with a long jump PB, and then won the hurdles
before setting a new shot PB. A solid high jump left her in pole position and
second place in the 800m in new best secured gold. Behind her Catrina McAuliffe
placed fifth, winning the shot in a new PB as well as finishing third in the
hurdles.
Matt Bloy was never really troubled in winning the u15 boys' 1500m final by a distance, with three other HMAC club mates also in the field. In the same age groups Bradley Reece took gold in the discus with a throw close to his recent best.
Ingrid Deane ducked below the 5 minute barrier for the first time to win silver in the u15 girls 1500m, while there was also silver service from sprinters Frankie Calder, who returned from injury to take runners up spot in the u15 girls 200m, and Eugene Ayanful, who powered to silver in the u17 men's equivalent. There were good performances in the same event from Chris Clements and Brian Gaisie in the same final finishing 5th & 6th.
The throws were also a happy hunting ground for club members. Georgie Lou Sales launched the u15 javelin to spear silver medal while Rochelle Rhodes heaved the shot to a new lifetime best to win silver in the u13 contest. The final podium place went to Jessica Humpheryes who yet again bettered her days old discus landmark to take bronze. Four club youngsters made it to the 120mm final for u13 girls with Sidnie Sales the pick of the quartet in fifth, with Eleanor Bounds, Emma McAuliffe and Chloe Jackson in close order behind her.
