Essex Championships, Day 4 & 5, Thurrock, Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 September 2006
| HMAC
athletes added three gold, two silver and four bronze county medals to
their season's tally at the final two days of the Essex Championships at
Thurrock this weekend.
The amazing Under 13 Boys 4 x 100m relay quartet of Fred Mokoso, Charlie Smith, Ben Western & Rhys Stevenson twice smashed their two week old club record as they stormed to Essex gold. Whereas in the EYAL final they had trimmed three-tenths off the previous mark their winning heat time of 51.0s took 1.3 secs off that mark and in the final they went even faster to stop the clock at 50.8s - thought to be the fastest in Britain this year. The U13 Girls 3 x 800m squad of Rebecca O'Neill, Nicola Peachey and Eleanor Bounds also dominated their race to win gold. They had their sights on the seven-year-old club record of 7m 34.8s and although the trio's PBs suggested this was possible the windy conditions put paid to their record hopes. There was silver for the U15 boys 3 x 800m squad of Michael Jones, John Whitehead & Simon Brown whose winning time of 6m 43.7s was just 13 secs outside the club best set in 1993. The relay medal haul was completed by bronze medals for the U13 Boys (Tyler Bennett, Luke Overton & Ryan O'Malley), U15 Girls (Jennifer Holland, Nicola Dalton & Zoey Littlechild) & U17 Women (Alex Beard, Christina Holland & Ingrid Deane) 3x800m relay trios. In the individual 3000m events Harriet Scott ran away with the senior women's event to strike gold, Georgie Lou-Sales was just outside her best in winning silver in the U17 competition while Matt Bloy completed the set of medals added bronze with in the Men's U17 race. There were promising performances in the U15 Girls pentathlon as Nicola Peachey & Sam hill smashed PBs on their way to 7th & 8th place overall. Nicola, still an U13 but competing in the older U15 age group, was close to the club best of 1950 points with her 1911 point tally, setting long & high jump PBs, and posting her first marks at the u15 hurdles & shot. Sam set PBs in four events - long jump, high jump, hurdles & 800m. |
